Bike rack on a Suburbban

My wife and I are going on an extended trip this summer in our Airstream and want to take our bikes. Has anyone carried their bikes on a Suburban? Have you any recommendations as to type or method? We stopped at REI today and they have theirs on sale until the 13th. They carry the "THULE" brand.

Thule and Yakima are as good of racks as are available.

I assume you are talking about a roof rack. Roof mounted bicycles are possibly the only thing driven into awnings, garage doors, and other low obstacles more often than travel trailers.

You have a couple of options. I'll be outfitting a Suburban soon and we plan to bring bikes as well. I'm planinng on putting a Wilderness or a Confer roof rack on ours. The bikes is a big reason. The big problem with a burb is the hight makes loading bike on the roof difficult. The bonus with a rack of this style is they can handle somebody standing on them. So one person could stand on the rack and another hand the bikes up.

Now I also plan to put a receiver on the front of my burb. I have one on the front of my offroad truck and it's great for moving a trailer around in a tight location. The reason I bring this up is you could use a receiver style bike carrier on the front if you had one. Much easier to load then the rook.
