Bambi or Scout

We are currently considering buying a Bambi 16. We want to keep it small to tow behind our Highlander SUV. Our Dealer in Springfield MO does not have any to look at and we would like to see a 16ft. Airstream before ordering one. Is there anyone in the several state area near SW Missouri who has one and would be willing to allow us to see it. We are willing to travel in Missouri, Arkansas, and parts of Oklahoma and Kansaas to see one.

thanks, Jeff

Have you guys looked at base camps? We had a highlander before our truck and looked into the smallest AS. We would have come close to maxing out TV payload once everything is fully loaded.

The Basecamp wasn’t an option back then otherwise we may have pulled the trigger on AS life sooner. I personally like the Basecamp 20x but I don’t know any of the weight stats in comparison to the Bambi. GL

Check the RV trader to see who is selling something similar to what you want. You can check it out, maybe even find a used one you like.

We are working on figuring what will work for us. The Basecamp 16 weighs between 2650 and 2700 with LP and batteries. The hitch weight is between 410 and 450 depending on model. The Basecamp 20 is heavier. The 16 only sleeps 2 which is fine for us most of the time but sometimes we want to take two grandchildren. The Bambi 16 can sleep 4. The Bambi 16RB weighs 3000 with a hitch weight of 430. Our Highlander Limited can tow 5000 and has a hitch weight limit of 500. I realize we would probably have to get a weight distribution system.
We also like how the Bambi has a dedicated sleeping area.

Check payload of the Hylander as well. That’s total it can’t carry with hitch weight, all humans + pets, and cargo fully loaded. Usually that’s what maxes out before tow capacity.

Another side thought, you may have to install a 7 pin if you don’t already have and a brake controller in the cab if desired.
