Awnings

Question, what do you think about awnings? Are they worth while ordering and spending the money on when purchasing a new AS or are they more of just a hassle?

I certainly would not want to be without an awning. I use mine all the time. It provides shade frrom the sun and I also use it when it is raining and I need to use the charcoal grill. If you have a choice of awnings, ZipDee is the best.

The awning that came with our trailer is a hassle!! It is strickly manual - you have to slide the awning thru a track on the trailer by hand and then set the poles. Hassle to put up and take down and if a big wind comes up... what a mess!! We would love to get ZipDee for the convenience and, we have also heard, they last!! I was wondering tho. Our dealer gave us a brochure for another brand (can't think of which right now) and it had a nice little feature called ADD A ROOM where the awning connected to screening and rolled down to form a room. Does ZipDee have that feature??? Leigh

My '77 Excella 500 came with Zip Dees on the curbside, streetside and one at the rear over the window. They really help provide shade to the side of the trailer to cut heat down on the inside of the trailer. The large curbside awning provides enough shade for gatherings especially when boondocking when interior temps are rather uncomfortable in the interior. The awnings also help during periods of heavy rainfall so that I do not have to close the windows and lose ventilation. Lastly, my refrigerator is on the curbside so the awning provides shade making it more efficient.

Leigh, yes ZipDee has the add-on room. I bought one and installed it and it fit perfectly. ZipDee has a form you fill out with several measurements and then they custom make it to fit. Here is the link:
