Anyone for some 'glamping'?
My husband and I got such a laugh out of this article about rich folks 'roughing it' in the latest craze - glamour camping - or 'glamping'. Enjoy

Reminds me of a time at the Hollywood bowl when the guy in the next box (linens, crystal, etc., etc.) asked if he borrow our corkscrew as he saw we were drinking wine too. So, I offered him my pliers.

Ditto, Fyrzowt...
That's too much! And here I feel like I'm not really camping out when we're lucky enough to enjoy an AS...(I always feel like it's more like watching other people camp)... but "glamping"...that's way out there. I'd rather save up my money and buy a new generator!

At least the boys had the sense to ask to go camping -- there's still hope for them!
I got a kick out of the mother's interview where she turned her nose up at real camping like it was some kind of infectious disease.

This is hilarious. We have a couple we hang out with who are like this in many ways - they love the luxury of these resorts, yet they live in a phenomenal log home that's huge and that they built themselves. I think for them these vacations are a reward for working very hard and very smart and making very good money, while at the same time their normal lives are quite relaxed. They could live fancy all the time if they chose to. I sent them the article - it will be interesting to see their response.

Maybe I could pitch a few tents in my back yard during the 2010 winter olympics and sell people the idea of winter glamping.

Kind of pathetic, really. I feel sorry for the kid. His parents are making him useless.

I have always been told that "camping in an Airstream is not REAL camping" from all of my buddies.
This takes things to the extreme!
Anyway, I always thought we had a maid when I was camping. I called her "Mom".
My kids now have one of those too!

This article inspires so many rants in me, I don't know where to start (and probably wouldn't be able to stop).

As I put my asbestos coveralls on, I just don't see what everybody's getting so upset about.
I'll admit I'm not going to pay $595/night to sleep in any tent, king sized duvet or not, but I see nothing wrong with it. As the article says, it's really no different than Dude Ranches of the '50's and '60's. If you compare lifestyles of then and now it is the same type of thing, just on a more modern scale.
This kind of thing has been around for years. More than twenty years ago when I moved to Atlanta I remember the "yuppies" going to concerts in the park and having catered picnic baskets with folding tables and chairs, linen table cloths, fine china, crystal, and silver with silver candlesticks, and fine wine. No different just different activity.
Besides, I told my wife I thought I saw some reporter type nosing around the golf cart at Ft. Wilderness ovn July 4th while I was grilling the fillet mignon on our stainless steel gas grill and sipping that rather fruity pinot noir.

Ah-ha! They're in our midst - I should have known!
I just got such a kick out of people who have so much money, just beyond imagining to me. I think even if I had money I would not spend it like this, which just shows I apparently don't have imagination enough.
Just think if those folks had to dump their own waste! Oh wait, I forgot, it probably smells like roses

I don't begrudge anyone the fruits of their labor. But raising your children like this will probably make them into rotten, spoiled, useless, brats; which will grow up to be rotten, spoiled, useless, adults.
