That's probably the best way to get them to re-think the policy: insult them.

What Aage said.

Operators of private campgrounds are, reportedly, dealing with people who, because of the economy, are coming and staying for long periods of time in dilapidated campers and posing an undue burden on management and other campers alike. Making judgment calls as each camper arrives leaves management open to charges of racism.

Sending love notes out to one campground at a time isn't going to solve much except maybe get policy changed at a few particularly important campgrounds where there are few other alternatives nearby.

A more effective approach would be to work with whatever trade associations there are for campgrounds, or to try to draw some interest from the industry press.

Finally, I note that there are few if any reports of immaculately maintained trailers being turned away at the gate. How many campground hosts can tell how old an Airstream is by looking at it?

On the website, it says:
Quote:
RVs more than 10 years old must be approved by Park management before arrival at Park.
It does not sound like this is the case...

It also shows that they are a Good Sam Park. You might want to pass your experience to the Good Sam people. That might have a larger impact then a handful of Airstream owners.

I appreciate the support and thoughts. In answer to the people who asked about being turned away upon bringing a nice rig to a campground that specifies otherwise.....would you want to take the chance of planning a trip (keep in mind I am with a 1 1/2 yr old and a very pregnant wife ), showing up, and finding out they are a stickler for the rules?

Some people might want to take that risk, but I try my best to follow the rules, no matter if I agree with them or not.

I agree but the problem is that most of the time you need to make a deposit to book a site, the refund policies are pretty strict and you may end up loosing cash...

I am new to this and have never heard of such a restriction. If any campground pulls this on me, I will ruin their day when they learn that my 2 year old GSD is an "assistance dog". I seldom take Falco into public establishments, but having been made aware of this issue, I may very well push it and let them deal with the violation of federal law, ADA.

My boy is a well mannered gentleman. He loves people, especially women and children and tolerates other animals. I have never met anyone that hasn't immediately fallen in love with him.

The day anyone turns me down because of the "size" of my dog, 90 pounds, will be the day they should start saving to buy me my boy a new friend to play with Falco. When he was an 8 week old puppy cost me 4k, (I know, my wife says I'm crazy too), so perhaps they will reconsider. LOL

Dogs under 20 pounds are generally not capable of eating people, we live in a very litigious society, so I can kinda understand this restriction. However, I find it deplorable that they anyone would restrict Vintage Airstreams.

Cheers,

Dan

Once when pulling out of Morro Dunes RV Park in Morro Bay CA towing our '65 Caravel with our '47 Chevy Street Rod, we stopped at the office to ask about future reservations. The nice lady said, "With that rig, you don't need a reservation. You just come right on in. We will find a space for you."

We still make a reservation, but thought that was quite a nice reaction to our Vintage Airstream and tow vehicle.

But, they already know that, by putting their policy in place. You aren't punishing them.

Guess that's one of the reasons they call it a free country...

OK you win. Shame on me for trying to help a fellow Airstreamer. On second thought the only mistake I've made was posting it on this forum.

An e-mail was sent to the Good Sam "Hotline." I got a generic e-mail back from them about how they were looking at putting it into their newsletter....I am not holding my breath though! Thanks for the suggestion.

I'm declaring a tie.

Let's get 30 or so lovely vintage units to send him e-mails telling him how much rental he'll be missing out on, because they turned away the "scout trailer" that was searching for a new site for their monthly business meetings and quarterly rallies. Hit 'em in the pocketbook where it really hurts!

Paula
I agree with Paula. Both were stunning. Your AS is an absolute knock out!
