Am I The Only Red Neck?
Has anyone else camped out in their own back yard or driveway to check out how the unit works? My neighbors think I'm a red-neck factory workin' woman, but I may be just a red neck. Can anyone help me clarify this for my neighbors?

I camp out in the AS now and again. Our house doesn't have air conditioning so when it's a hot, still humid night, that's where i'll be with the ac on full blast. I just love driveway camping.
I sleep like a rock in it.

I am probably what one might call a redneck. I am LIVING in my Airstream right now. I purchased a cabin in the Big Thompson Canyon in Colorado and it needs to be "remodled" before it can be called a home. Heck, I have everything I need. Even a microwave. The A/C feels good, I have a septic system so there's no problem with sewage, good water and beautiful surroundings, I might not ever finish the house!
I don't know how this winter is going to work out however.

Welcome to the Forum and the world of Vintage Airstreaming.
I noted in your profile that you are from Southern Wisconsin. When I originally purchased my '64 Overlander, I was teaching in in Grant County Wisconsin (18 miles north of Platteville).
If you haven't already discovered its existence, Wisconsin has a very active WBCCI (Wally Byam Caravan Club International) unit with a large number of Vintage owners - - I am still a member despite my move to Illinois. Ed Emerick is the Unit President and tows a beautiful '68 Sovereign with a '75 International Travelall. The Region 7 VAC Rally last month was a great event, and was hosted by the Wisconsin Unit - - many families with children were in attendance and virtually every rig had at least one pet traveling along as well. If you are interested in learning more about the Wisconsin unit, let me know and I will PM the contact information to you.
The "in-the-drive" shakedown method is a "tried-and-true" means of safely determining the functionality of a coach's systems - - I suspect that probably 80+% of RV owner's have used the system at least once.

Yep! Also used it as a "guest house" when we've had company...but we go out there and give the house to the guests ~

good to have another on board!
camping the the backyard is one of my favorite things to do! i'll even put out the flags, awning, patio lights and pink flamingoes.
like shari, we also use ours as guest quarters.
when my 6 sister in laws visit, it can become a good place to go hide. nice to get out of the "hen" house.

john... i used to think that there was something SERIOUSLY wrong with you... now there's no doubt!!! camping in your back yard. the very thought!!! when I do it, I do it in the driveway in the front yard! no hiding or sneaking around in the back yard where the neighbors can't see what's going on, no sirree!!!!
so, now i'm going to my tri-axle tin-tent in the driveway in the front of the house, wearing my tinfoil (aluminum?) hat (which, btw, i find to be ever-so-much-more a fashion statement than those silly cheese wedges you wear) and have a beer. 
oh... and i'm not sure what to make of the clucking cheesehead... ???

Dang restrictions
For years, my trailer was my favorite place to grab a nap or get away from the Bunco ladies. Now, I can't keep the trailer at home because of the covenants except for short periods such as preparing for a trip.
Now that I have 30A service available, I'll still use it as a guest house now and then, and I'll grab a nap in there whenever I bring it home to prepare for a trip or to do some work on it.

hell... i would too...if i had a yard
code...code....code....my rigs up in southern wis. i just finished downloading a list of campsites(10 pages)...wis state parks..pretty cheap if you are a resident...much better then a driveway......norby

that is what the clucking was referring to!

Man I thought I had it bad with two daughters and a Wife. Even the dog ins a girl. Just me and the old cat. I just go out to the manspace (garage) and fix things when I'm ovewhelmed.
As for the Red Neck....Nah that's scientific testing.
Till you got one of these in the drive your just a Redneck in training. Ohh Btw I paid a dollar for it and fixed it u...If that aint red neck nothing is.

A few times we camped in the driveway. One time during a HUGE snowstorm! 
I think there is a little redneck in all of us....Brandi might just have a little more than most!
