I just saw a tag axle Airstream Motorhome on I-75 going south through Lexington KY at around 10:05 am today. It was a nice looking Motorhome and the colors seemed to be shades of grey

It made me happy to see it.

I just noticed that the as in the first pic had the nose riding a bit low. I wonder what kind of hitch the lot was using.

A little late to respond here, but that was us! We waved back, hope you saw us (we wouldn't want to look like vintage elitists or something).

I've gotta tell you, and this may seem really strange; after running into trouble around St. Louis and abandoning our trailer for the whole trip, heading home felt a little strange. We hadn't gotten to use the trailer at all, but waving to you guys on the road really picked up my spirits that day.

So.. thanks for noticing us!

During a recent trip from Tennessee to New Jersey and back, only saw four new units on the highway. Kept looking for a vintage Aiestream but none showed up. I have to say that they were all driving faster than I was since I was pulling a flat nosed motorcycle trailer. Boy, I could really notice the drag and decrease gas mileage even though it is shorter and lighter.

Went on a Boy Scout camping/hiking trip over the weekend to Providence Canyon and camped at a Corp of Engineers Park in South Georgia on the GA/AL state line. Saw a newish 30' Classic in the camp ground where we stayed, but didn't get to talk to the owners. On the way back heading north on Hwy. 27 in Georgia I saw 4 Airstream trailers and one Airstream Cutter motor home all on Sunday morning. I don't know if they were heading for a rally or just traveling together but they seemed to be in groups of 2-3.

Well, a bald Bambi just literally pulled into the campground, followed by a car with a kyak. Will pay them a visit after they settle in.

There was also another airstream here over the weekend. Nice guy from Atlanta...Never heard of Airforums. So we told him all about this wonderful place!

It's always so much fun to see another airstream.... sharing that aluminum family bond...

Coming Soon, Winter inWisconsin

I just took this today. I had first noticed this AS a couple of weeks ago. This is Wisconsin....news flash, it gets cold here! I tried my AS out once in late December a few years ago. It was parked in a machine shed. It sucked propane like I could not believe. My furnace is a bit under sized but it still sucked up the fuel. I cannot see being in an AS for more than a couple of nights, but I am getting to be a bit of a wimp when it comes to winter camping over the last few decades.

I'm sure it is expensive to heat, but I do see a larger propane tank next to the trailer. I do agree with you though, I'm too cold natured to spend a northern winter in a camping trailer without a good heat source and lots of gas to keep it going.

What was it?

I was at an RV dealer and noticed a ....... I don't know what?.....It was a very old aluminum trailer with no markings. It looked to be about 30' or so, dual axle.
It was more square than rounded and the front and rear were longer on the top than at the base. kind of like this / but not so drastic.

It was in an enclosed area and is being stored there. When I asked about it I was told they thought it was some kind of old military trailer. It looks to me to be from the 40s or 50s.

I always have my camera with me.... EXCEPT TODAY! I will make a trip back to take pictures of the outside the next time I'm in town. But for now..DOES ANYONE KNOW WHAT IT IS? I am very curious and won't sleep until I find out the history of this Trailer! REALLY ....I WON'T! :-)

I will post pictures when I get them...
Thank you in advance for any information.

The latest Hank Williams, Jr video - "Bartender song" has an airstream in several shots. Check it out on CMT or google Hank and find the videos.

Kani--
My guess is that you were looking at a Spartan. Look them up and see if the photos match what you saw.

I found it!

You're right it is a Spartan! Of course it is not as shiny as this one but it sure could be with the right owner...

Who made this trailer? (Spartan?) DUH...I guess I could look that up too huh?

That would be the Spartan School of Aeronautics in OK

The Spartan School taught many aircraft builders and metal workers the fine points of cutting and forming sheet metal, riveting and welding and precision casting... They made a small number of Airplanes ("Spartan Executives") that used big round loud engines and were intended for executive transport, and then after the war switched to deluxe travel trailers.. Most today are pretty tired, but they are very cool when properly restored, and actually towable..

Thank you for the Spartan Info....I would love to have the time and MONEY to restore or remodel one....but would anyone by it? I guess if you had that kind of time and money it wouldn't matter.

TOO FUNNY! My wife and I drove by that one a few weeks ago and commented about it also! I also made note of the large LP tank!
There are 2 other 'spots' not far from there occupied by A/S's that I'll have to get pics of...

Airstreams

I see a lot of Airstreams pass thru my area a lot but it seems that most of them do not have the Red numbers on them.
I saw a 34' footer yesterday. It had a Tag on the Airstream that said Walts RV.It was a classic LTD W/the maroon and grey I think vinyl graphics on it.It was being towed by a Red 2500.Dont quote me on the 2500 part though.I dont know truck that well.
They were going to St.Andrews state park.
I have a pic but at the moment it is on my iphone.
