Stopped to take photos of a large, abandoned farm along the I-80 turnpike in Ohio a few months ago. After getting excited over the windowless house, collapsed barn, silo and various storage sheds, I turned the corner and found this...

A Silver Dome trailer - 50's era fridge and peeling cabinetry still intact. Looks like it had an aluminum exterior, wood interior.

While travelling up I-75 yesterday, we spotted 3 AS in a twenty mile span. All were 70's vintage. One 21'ish, single axle, one 25'ish double axle, and one 31 footer. All heading south through southcentral Kentucky. It was a pleasant site to see that "many" in one day.

Saw two last week during the SD/WY trip. First sighting on the blue hwy South of Torrington WY headed South, and the second one on I90 East of Gillette headed East. Got a friendly wave from both. My first overnight was three nights Spearfish City campground and the next three were in Buffalo Wy.

Sighting today at the intersection of First Ave. S. & 160th in Burien, WA at Appx 1140hrs. Too far back in the line at the light to see more than the gleam off the 'luminum........

Sheese... I live in Austin and I don't see anybody dressed like these folks... and I'm glad!

What do they do, pick a city out of the air & hope for the best? Jeeze, last week, it was friggin' 100 degrees outside! Chilled down to 86 today after the hurricane... that missed us... and we didn't get a drop... of rain...

Rochford, SD

I'm not too tuned in on which model is which but this is sitting next to the Moonshine Gulch Saloon in Rochford, SD. Generally, it is south of Deadwood on 205 which is the only paved road into Rochford. Don't let the Mapquest maps fool you--205 is paved and the rest are gravel.

Anyhow, this is parked next to the saloon. The owner's son says that the cook currently resides in the trailer. He does not know if the trailer is for sale or not.

Safari, I think. That midsection is quite a bit longer than the windows, which on GT's usually are centered and take up a lot of that stretch.

Interesting positioning of those end cap clearance lights. Never seen them like that, I bet they were added later.

Ouch. Faux stone foundations and shapely aluminum do NOT make a pretty pair.

Larry,

I'd guess 1961 Globetrotter (19'). First year for the return of the GT. Reasoning: 7 panel end crowns, larger aluminum box on the front, location of the street side window is correct for that year (a year or so later, A/S put the window directly behind the stove - further to the rear - and wondered why the curtains caught on fire), it's not a Safari (too short and window placement), it's not a '62 or '63 because of the box size, not '64 or newer (5 panel), and not a Caravel (or 18 footer)because of the furnace vent location. Other thoughts?

Did you sneak up on it and get a serial number, by any chance?

Brad,

I agree with you, the lights are not in the right locations and were probably added after manufacture.

Y'know, I went to see that thing at the dealer's (was on at ~C$7k) and it was a REAR bath! I wonder how it came through the descrambler as center bath!?

Anyway, while looking superficially good, I noticed two biggish things: a nice-sized puddle on the floor about 2 feet from the door (Leak!), and the PO must have given up on the original refer, since as you will see, there is a too-small one in its place. But I looked behind it and you can see daylight through the vent. That's not good. Poor install, at a minimum. Everywhere else, lots of signs of wear. Well, it's not at a silly price, at least

It reinfored for me at least that the mid twins are a viable setup for us, and the rear bath seems to give more space, I felt.

A good thing, given that I see more of that style in my price range.

The only other A/S in the park at Pioneer RV Resort, Mustang Island, Texas, this weekend was this 1980(?)-looking 31 footer. I believe the model designation read "Excella," and it did have removed WBCCI numbers I couldn't quite make out. She's pretty weathered, with two-toned LP bottles, but still very handsome.

Saw an Airstream of some kind off N Main St north of Joplin, Mo. It was behind a fence behind Fat and Happy's restaurant, I could only see the top of it behind the fence so I don't know what it is. It was in somebody's yard on the next street over.
