Airstream-Sight-O-Rama

While traveling this weekend and this evening we've seen alot of Airstreams!

July 11th - Illinois
  • Rt 39 between 87 (southbound) - an Excella with a blue stripe (23'?)
  • I-24 (eastbound) between metropolis and Galconda - a 30-34' Excella
  • "At home" off Rt 351 in Oglesby, IL - a white argosy
  • TWO bambis on a flatbed trailer heading southbound on I-57 just south of Effingham.
July 13 - Illinois
  • An Airstream Moho "at home" on Rt 64 near Sycamore, IL
  • I-57 northbound near Matoon, IL - a 34' (?) with a maroon stripe
Today - Tennessee
  • I-24 Westbound near Murfreesboro, TN (I was waving like a geek then realized I wasn't pulling my airstream - so how would the driver know I was waving at the airstream? So if you see this and it's you, I'm the idiot lady in the blue beemer going eastbound that was waving like crazy...LOL!)
  • I-24 eastbound near Manchester, TN we saw TWO airstreams within a minute - a CNN airstream and another one (excella) with a blue stripe.
Yep, I'm the geek that totally waves, blinks, and cheeses when I see a beautiful airstream!

Keep Streamin'
Lois

Hidden Treasure

Madison, WI

At the end of Lalor Rd. where the road meets Hwy B (i think). It was surrounded by potted plants and lovely lawn ornaments.

Sure hope it's being used, cause that's really a shame.

I'm thinking it's a 64 Tradewind (24').

I am not as knowledgable as some others in here, but I will take a wild guess at mid to late 60's, more than likely a late 60's.
Lets see how close I am.

Try this link. If it works, replace the last number with the number 2, then 3.

Something about the way the word "image" was posted. The shots are there. Spooky shot at night, looks abandoned.

On Sunday (July 13) I saw a later model classic moho (rounded & shiny but with the newer headlights/front end--is that a Land Yacht?) parked near a pool shop just off I-30 around Rockwall, Texas.

Then on Monday on my way to work, I saw a trailer (WBCCI #1700) headed south on I-530 between Little Rock and Pine Bluff. He had Florida plates and may have been headed home from Bozeman. I had a great shot lined up on my camera phone, took it, and the phone said, "Not enough memory available. Close some applications and try again." Grrr!!!! So I scrambled to delete some stuff and got the below pic as I exited:

Wednesday evening (maybe around 5:30) I got a brief glimpse of a shiny silver Squarestream headed west/south on I-30 from Little Rock. I was headed the other way and almost snapped my neck trying to get a better look!

It was a good week for Airstreams!

Susan,

I don't think there is any other product out there that gets the kind of reaction that the Airstream does. I have almost run off the road trying to look at an Airstream going by.

It truly is an "American Icon!"

I was going through our pictures from SD and found one from Mount Rushmore that had an AS parked on their RV parking lot. It was taken May 24 in the morning and appeared to be pulled by a light colored club cab pickup with bicycles in the back. I was taking a picture of the clouds and don't remember seeing the AS at the time.

Yesterday, I was driving south on I-81 near Scranton PA, from Goshen NY to home in Virgnia, and saw the STORYCORP Airstream headed north. Couldn't get a pic but it was cool to actually see the one of the units.

Saw one in CANADA ! !

Of course there are Airstreams here in Ontario, but rarely do we see one in motion! !
We saw one the other day, just outside of Essex, Ontario on the Arner Townline. It looked to be a newer model (not familiar with the newer ones yet). We blinked the lights and waved (our first! !), and then saw the other guy wrench his neck trying to get a glimpse of our's. We were towing the 59 Tradewind to Kingsville, Ontario for a polishing. Short trip, BIG thrill ! !

I'm taking back my previous guess of 1964. Better able to enlarge these photos, and now I'm thinking 61 or 62, but still a Tradewind. Noted: 7 panel end crowns (so not a 64)with straight letter name plate (so not 59 or 60) and more pronounced door hood (so not a 63). How are we going to know for sure? Someone is going to have to drive back over in the middle of the night and get a shot of the S/N.

We may have just invented a new trivia game, I hope "do overs" are allowed.

Sounds like a plan- I'll be sure to check on it next time I'm up that way. Sorry about the red x's -thanks for putting up the alternate link. I'm thinking it hasn't been towed in several years- was hard to see in the dark, though. I'll get a pic of the blue striper I drive past every week and the sawed off Bambi (or tiny Avion?) in the woods near here. It has a hack-job caboose porch.
