The older trailer looks to have 13 panel end caps front and rear (no whale tail), which should make it an Ohio built trailer. It was a sloped rear end. These details identify it as a late '54 to early '57 model. The length appears to be about 26', thus it is a Cruiser/Overlander. I think the window configuration of this trailer was at least used in '55, '56, & '57, so further clarification without the serial number is probably not possible.

If it were closer to Michigan, I'd love to take a look at it. One of these days I hope to get another vintage unit and I really like the mid to late 50's era trailers.

For Sale

I spotted this Airstream for sale on the way back from the Oregon Coast. If you are up for a real project I have the contact info. Email me if you would like it. The shell looks good anyway ! I am not even sure what year it is. I assume it is an 18 "footer".

I spotted a 28 ft Argosy this past weekend going north on I-17 between Phoenix and Flagstaff. I also saw an Airstream on the side of the road on Route 64 in Blanco, NM. It might have been a mid 70's maybe an Overlander. It had a phone number on the side, but I could not get the number. I was on a bus to the San Juan River with my fly fishing club and just caught it out of the corner of my eye.

I saw one on the Susquehanna Bridge, going southbound on I-95, while I was going north, on my way up to South Jersey RV last Saturday. First one I've seen in months.

Spotted another old Airstream in Prague, Oklahoma, sitting beside a little old house. It has the end panels, but not 13 like the one I saw a couple of weeks ago. This one has 5 panels. It looks to be about 25ft., but I'm sorry to say someone is either living in it or using it for fun. The gas bottles are new and the A/C is new. It's a dual axel, so I would love to ask if it's for sale, but I don't know how safe it is to just walk up to an old house in rural Oklahoma, when you're by yourself. Found another little one, pretty trashy looking in Davenport, Oklahoma. This one is sitting out in a field. A client told me some farm hand used to live in it. It's small, but intact. The windows look good too. By the type of windows it has, I'm thinking 67 or 68.

I spotted this one in Miami, AZ last year. Good luck getting past the garbage and the snarling dogs!

East side of I-805, San Diego, in a truck storage lot. It was dark and hard to tell what it was... 'cept it was an Airstream. This was 11/8/2005. Tom

Gilman, Illinois -- Argosy 24

While hitching my Minuet after its Winterization at R & R RV in Gilman, IL, I noticed a '76 Argosy 24 on their pre-owned lot. It has been repainted at some point in its life as it is now white above the belt-line and midnight blue below the belt-line. Eric, the Service Manager at R & R, told me that the coach needs some TLC, but it is quite presentable from my brief observation.

Airstreams Sighted !

Hi everyone.

I don't know if it's just my wife and I, but we get a little excited when we see an Airstream in our travels.

On our way back from Las Vegas to Long Beach, Ca. (Veterens Day Weekend), we saw a couple of 25'vers going east and one coming back with us. The're such eye catchers!

Happy Trails

Going to try to get pictures of a 5 panel Airstream I saw in Prague, Oklahoma. Looks like someone is taking care of it, which is good, but means it's probably not for sale. Found a little, much abused one sitting alone in a field. No homes around, so don't know who to ask about it. It's sitting in Davenport, Oklahoma, pop about 200. Neighbors say they think a farm hand used to live there but he's been dead a while. No one seems to know anything else. Try to get pictures today if the wind doesn't blow me away. 60 MPH today. Fall in Oklahoma.

Page and I are recently returned from our fall trip West - VA to CO and back. We saw very few 'Streams on the trip, and only one was a forum member - we ran into barkingspider in the Land Between the Lakes in KY. It was kind of funny; we were talking about our rigs, and he mentioned that he had been rear-ended by a semi. Of course, that was when I knew that I "knew' him, as he did a good job of keeping us all updated.

Pat

I did make a point to tell the folks we met about the forum so we may have made some new friends for the group.

Hi Safari Rick:

Well in about two weeks we will have our new Safari 28 footer, and we live a few miles from you over in Los Alamitos!!!

Send me an email, maybe we can get out camping together.

Yes sir, Been admiring those silver bullets on the road for almost half a century. When we were kids we would have a contest to see who in the car would see one first.

Here are the pics I took of a 5 paneled AS in Prague, Oklahoma. Sorry I couldn't get closer. Any ideas on the year? It has a new awning, A/C and gas bottles, so I doubt if it's for sale.

Coffee anyone?

We saw this Airstream last July at a rest area in western Oregon serving free coffee.

Juel:

The teardrop shaped tandem axle wheel wells are typically found on late 1950's trailers that have 7 end cap panels. Are you sure there aren't 7 end cap panels on this trailer's front end instead of five? You might take another look.

It looks like it actually has 7 panel end caps to me, not 5. This dates it between late 1957 and 1963. The length appears to be about 26' to me, so I think it is an Overlander. It appears the have sloped wheel well openings like were used on California built trailers in '57 & '58. The windows also appear to be consistent with a '57-'58 trailer and also with the standard Overlander floor plan. I will thus guess that it is a late '57 or '58 California built 26' Overlander.

Due to the sloped wheel wells, whale tail, and window configuration this would appear to be an early '57 California built 22' Flying Cloud. Now if I could just find something like this for sale somewhere near Michigan . . .
