2022 27FB International delivery woes

We ordered a 2022 international 27’FB with a hatch in November. Shortly after placing the order we were told that we were scheduled for a build in March or April. Today our dealer’s sales rep called to tell us the build is now set for August/September.

I’m pretty sad about it.

I'm surprised that you were told only 5 months. Every delivery date I've heard for the 27/28 and bigger units is 10+ months.

Good news is you'll be getting a 2023.

Sounds like the dealer initially shot out a date without checking with the regional sales rep first. Hopefully you didn’t place a deposit, and if you did is it refundable? If so, you may be able to shop around and improve the delivery date.

Not necessarily -- my 2021 has a build date of August 23, 2021. There were 2022s built on the floor at the same time, but as it was an order made in November 2020, it came with the 2021 feature set (which I am thankful for, as I received a propane fridge, rather than the electric one).

Sounds like a sales tactic. We placed an order for a Classic 30 RBT in 11/04 and was told May which surprised me. We got a call a week or so later telling us September unless someone in their system drops their order spot which we could take over. I told the sales guy when he called us I had originally thought he was blowing smoke when he told us May. His comment was "Yeah...granted." so I kind of think it's a sales tactic. We'll wait..... I don't really like you can't lock in a price at order time. We got a price but that's subject to change if things get bumped up from AS. I'm certain we'll be seeing at least a 5% increase and maybe more if the build takes longer. More than likely ours will be a 2023 model.

Hopefully AS for the upcoming year models will get rid of the ugly gold cupboard and drawer pulls. Terrible color clash with the comfort white, gray upholstery. But that's just us.

It depends on your dealer and the nature of your deposit. We just put a non refundable deposit down on what will most likely be a 2023 Globetrotter. We have a locked-in price.

Don't blame you, we waited just over 6 months and that was a while ago. Not normal times, I'm sick of saying it but it's true. Good luck, you'll enjoy it.

We ordered our 2021 International 27 FQ in early October 2020 and took delivery in early February 2021, 3+ months ahead of the dealer estimated schedule. Enjoy researching and getting ready . . . . It will be worth the wait!

It has been tough. In 2018 we were able to walk in and buy a 2019 GT 27 -but only because the original buyer had changed his mind, if he hadn't we would have been waiting 2-3 months. We were looking in early July for the next summer at that point. Since then, things have gone crazy.

This year folks have received their trailers missing stabilizers, mattresses and awnings all due to Covid shortages. Delivery times have been pushed back and pushed back again due to other issues at the factory. Prices have gone up.

Your choice is to be patient and wait or select some other type of trailer. I just read an article where they encouraged folks to sell their trailers rather than winterize them. The logic? Winterizing takes time and your trailer just sits there so you are paying for storage as it ages, prices are currently high and you'll probably be able to find a better one next camping season. Apparently they weren't considering the wait for Airstreams...

We ordered our 25FBT with the hatch in February and just took delivery this week. Also I have heard a lot of questions regarding the quality control at Airstream and it is excellent, it is worth the wait!

2022 27FB International delivery woes

We picked up our 25FBT on October 8th, and we have had very few issues. Overall build quality is excellent. I’ve said this before, until you have the VIN number from the dealer, you do not have a tentative delivery date. The VIN is key to having a confirmed build slot at the Airstream factory. The VIN allows you to follow up on your tentative delivery date directly with Airstream. If the dealer is not providing this key evidence that your order is placed, received and accepted by Airstream, then the tentative delivery date you are being given is pure B.S.

I just bought one that was ordered over 8 months ago and the customer backed out after finding one another customer backed out on the dealers lot that was identical to his order.

If waiting is really bothering you then do this...

Call Airstream Dealers all around the country and tell them exactly what you are wanted to buy. Ask them to call you if someone backs out on an order. You might get lucky as I did a few days ago. Airstream confirmed ours is scheduled to be produced in March/April timeframe. My new truck I ordered should be in just before that time, so that is perfect for us.

My Order

I’ve read thru this line of comments. I would like to share my experience with our order. We ordered a 2023 27’ International in October of this year. Deposit paid, price locked, order placed, delivery in late July to early August IAW Airstream . Cool! I did find it interesting that it would be a ‘23 model being built in July of ‘22 and I’m really pleased the price was locked regardless of the economy. The price, not bad either. I’m seeing advertisements for owner-sold 2020 27’ FCs for more than the International we ordered. I really wanted a 27’ GT, but the price break was just too much for a couple of extra things and I DID NOT want that woven fabric floor the GTs have. We’ll see if AS can make the delivery on time. It hurts that half the camping season is over by then.

If anyone does this the only thing I would ad is to find out exactly why the buyer backed out. It's not always because of lack of finances or impatience, but a buyer might also reject a trailer because of some sort of defect that could end up being someone else's problem. I suppose this would rely on the dealer being honest if asked.

We have this exact model and LOVEEEEEEEEE it! That hatch is worth twice its price in our book! We also agree that the quality was good and we were not missing anything. A couple things to suggest, if you have yet to look under your twin bed at the electrical, do so. Ours is absolutely atrocious. Wires everywhere, and our inverter was literally hanging from wires and not mounted or anything. Also, depending on where you live and if you are using it in the winter months, make it a priority to put weather proofing strips on that hatch door. We should have done it sooner and only did it last week. Makes a bigger difference than we expected on how cold it is to sit by it.

I thought that I would just share that we put a non-refundable deposit on our 27ft FB Globetrotter in early August 2021 and were quoted a date of late October 2021. Our trailer arrived at the dealer in mid November. Our salesperson updated us monthly during the process and I was very pleased with the transaction. As for overall quality and build, there have been a couple of issues, one that might be considered major (an exterior panel need to be replaced that got damaged during transit) and they have been excellent about addressing them while letting us have access to it for travel.

One thing that struck me when we started shopping around about 18 months ago was the discrepancy in delivery times. I would recommend not limiting yourself to your geographical area. We have not purchased any of our cars from our geographical area or our state (and it a big state - lol) and we applied this same method to getting our Globetrotter, it just so happens that the dealership in our hometown was where we wanted to purchase it.
