2018 Globetrotter

Watching the walk through video from Colonial, three new features stand out: new 3 way Dometic fridge now runs on battery power to keep cool when traveling, power stabilizers, and cool new stylish stove. I also like the adjustable base for the dinette. Nice new features I wish I had on the 2017.

Got to say, this is one of the nicest Airstream interiors I've seen. It's very similar to the gray kitchen cabinets we have in our home.

Like others here, hoping that the line moves to a 25' twin floorpan sooner than later. A standard Truma water heater would be nice too.

(Yes, the former vintage owner in me is bothered with the use of this name for a fairly large trailer, and the having-British-inlaws part of me is bemused by the "European" billing and the fact that AS still won't sell one of their longer narrow-body trailers here.)

The lounge area of the the back 15' or so of a 25FB and 27FB are identical for furniture and fittings. I see this new interior as a marriage of the Serenity cabinets and Signature cabinetry.

The price is certainly astounding. Our 2014 31' Classic listed for $96,147 and we added the second A/C unit and 50 amp service for $2,129 for a total list of $98,276. So a few options like the second A/C for use in the Southwest will push this new model price close to or over $120,000.

Well these inflated new prices keeps the value of our older model from depreciating very much.

$120k is cheap. Earthroamer just released a $1.5MM unit on a Ford F-750 platform. What does this remind you of?

They had million dollar motor homes in the 60s..... Bluebird bus made custom rigs that were in the $500K class as a friend of my father had one they used to go to Alaska several times.

I do think the $150K price range of the new Classics is exorbitant

The idea that Airstream is at the top end and you can't spend more has always made me laugh a bit. That was not true in the 60's (when I first started noticing this stuff). It certainly has not been true since then. They do sell for more than some brands do. They sell for less than others.

None of that speaks to "are they worth it?". Something is worth what people are willing to pay. Right now AS has a pretty crazy backlog. In that sense, they are worth it. My guess is that at 3 or 4 a year the Earthroamer people have a "couple of years" backlog as well.

Before you decide that nobody ever buys one of those expedition vehicles ... (ignoring AS only campgrounds) I've had roughly as many of them parked in with me as I have Airstreams ....

We cancelled the deal with the "show shister" and received a substantialy better price from Toscano in Los Baños. Now waiting for delivery around Dec. 12. Tons of pictures from dealers on RVTrader, our color is Barcelona Blue.

I've been anxiously following the new Globetrotter, and after a month, I am not seeing any G's hit dealerships. One in Ohio, one in Vermont, one in New Jersey.
I know they are built by hand, but where's the beef? I am close to pulling the trigger, but there may not be one around to purchase. Where are they?

Unfortunately, gold and silver are at the same price they were 10 years ago. I think the market is controlled. As long as stocks are hot, precious metals aren't going anywhere.


I do think the globetrotter is really nice. But at a price point that's out of my sensibility range.

I absolutely love this new decor. Our 2008 International has crisp white upper cabinets. When Airstream changed to the mushroom beige of newer Internationals, I was disappointed. I love all the white in the Globetrotter. It does look more like the European models, for sure. Our International has the "paprika" decor. The sofa upholstery is a light grey & white weave. After 9 years and 3 dogs, it still looks new without stains (even after experiencing a plethora of "yellow stickies" from poplar trees). I guess we aren't rougher on our stuff just because we are out in the wilds. I'm willing to bet that the white fabric on the Globetrotter is even easier to keep clean. As for lighter floors, when you have a Golden Retriever, that's a bonus! The hair won't show as much. This is the first decor that I've liked more than my 2008. How I wish my budget would allow me to get this model. Sigh.

Looks great! A lottery win would have me ordering one - with an emergency exit door instead of a window in the bedroom. Very smart looking trailer and some nice feature updates since my 2012.

We would really like to see one "in person", especially the twin version. Colonial has 5 in stock and they are all with the queen bed. We have not even seen pictures of the bedroom with the twin bed layout. Especially how the headboard is handled. I'll see if I can find some pictures on RVTrader.

I guess the queen is much more popular. Just curious if anyone has any idea what the ratio of queen vs. twins.

I would guess overall that queens outnumber twins, but there is a dedicated customer base that require twins. Airstream generally (always?) releases the queen versions first when they introduce new models. Twin versions, if offered at all (they were custom order only on some models in the past, like the Eddie Bauer) typically come along a few months later. At least that was the case on the radically new 2015 30' Classic. The first twins (other than one demo model) were first built maybe 6 months after the queen version went on sale. I think there was much less delay on the twin version of the 33 Classic, but that was not so much a new model as just a new floor plan/length.

Bottom line, since they have advertised it on their web site, it will just take little patience until they appear on dealer lots.

I wonder about resale value, queen vs twin. Seems like most people go for the queen.

Our first Airstream was the cross frame queen bed 2013 25FB International Serenity. We knew after the first night this was a bad purchase decision for us. At that time twins were not an option on the International series and higher trim lines until the Classic model. It was rumored that somewhere north of $4,000 would enable a twin model International to be made at that time. Then they become a standard no charge option.

If we had been able to acquire a twin bed model originally in the International Serenity trim, we might still be in the 25FB.

Once we got into the 2014 31' Classic with twins, we would never consider a queen bed again on a wide body Airstream.

There is no way to put the twin bed option in the 2015 23D International Serenity, but at least there is no rear roof locker positioned to bean yourself on when sitting up.

From talking to dealers, the queen / twin versions split about 50/50 when they are available.

We like the Twin versions for 4 main reasons:
1) more room to roam. The twins give you more room to dress and also make the beds easier.
2) storage. You have 2 more outside storage bins with the Twin models, plus 2 storage bins under each bed (4 total) inside for shoes, etc. Don't have to deal with lifting up a big 60" queen mattress to get to inside storage.
3) sleeping surface. With Twins, you have 34" each= 68" sleeping surface total, vs 60" with a Queen model. Plus, twins are easier to make up, from our experience.
4) wife likes the twin more than the queen!
