2006 Classic Slide Out--How reliable?
We are considering a 2006 Ckassic with a slideout. Does anyone have experience with these and what, if any, problems are associated with a slideout in an Airstream. Thank you.

I believe you will discover there is a large group of very satisfied owners listed in this thread:
https://www.airforums.com/forums/f36...ml#post1873223
My personal experience after almost fifteen years of ownership is the slide-out component is very reliable (never an issue for us) but the rest of the trailer suffers from the same quality issues found in all Dometic and Atwood products.
I would also pass along the thought that there are many who will speak poorly of slide outs without the benefit of ever owned an Airstream model while being super knowledgable about someone else's SOB nightmare.

We have owned our 2002 Classic 30 Slideout for 4 years now, put over 29,000 miles on it and spent 221 nights on board. I have replaced the sofa with recliners, replaced the dump valves, replaced the axles, converted to disc brakes, replaced the flooring, and many other upgrades and minor repairs and replacements but I have not had a single problem with the slideout other than adjusting the clearance on it when I brought it home in 2016. The slideout mechanism is robustly designed and built. I would have no hesitation buying another one.

Do it and don’t look back! We previously owned a 28’ Safari without a slide and we currently own a 2009 30’ Classic with a slide. The extra room is fantastic and we have never had a single issue with the slide. They are incredibly unique trailers and I would not consider giving up our slide-out.

2004 Classic 30’ slide out. Rule you learn. Do not extend or retract the side unless the stablizers are down. I do apply silicone annually to the gaskets.

AirStream Slide Outs - S/O
Hi Betsydog - Welcome to the Forum!
We've owned our 2008 30' S/O since 2016. It's been a pleasure!
We'll join in with the four previous replies from Actual S/O Owners and say go for it. We've been very happy with ours!
Some history - AirStream Customer Service reports there were @617 Travel Trailer S/O's built from 2000-2009. They were on the 28', 30' and 34' frames. According to Customer Service the 2006 model year there were @21 Safari 28's, @42 Classic 30's, @21 Classic 34's.
I will say that one of the issues you may encounter is folks stopping by while camping asking you a bunch of questions, and requesting a "Tour". LoL...
All the best!

Negative to slide owners trailers, extra foot prints from look see'rs asking for a peep inside.
If you get it, feel free to hit us sliders for questions particular to slide out etc. Otherwise it's a Airstream. And YES stabilize first then slide out.
And SeeMores comment about nay saying never owned ones is correct. Stremn keeps the data for us Slide Out Society owners.

2006 Classic w/slide
I have a 2006 Classic with slide and love it. I’ve had no trouble with slide. My maintenance guy has adjusted it once. He used to own one and is well versed in care of the slide. We lubricate, always stabilize before slide goes out. I think you will love it and the extra room is excellent! It is a heavy rig almost 10,000 lbs so make sure your TV is beefy.
Safe travels, C&ETschupp

Post above says it all. My '06, 35', was the first built in July '05. The slide has been flawless except for a lightning strike that killed the Power Gear controller and me shorting one out. New updated controllers are available from PG. One time the slide lock did not want to release, but I cleaned the ground connection in the motor and mechanism box and have never had a repeat. Just keep the gaskets clean and lubricated with silicone. Also, keep and eye on the fit into the side of the trailer. Missalignment will be your first clue than an adjustment is needed. Never any leaks, but I try to set up with the slide level or slightly down hill. It just makes more since.

Thanks for all the comments. We bought it!!!!! It was a great deal -- it has lived inside it's whole life and only went out three weeks a year. It looks like it came directly from the showroom. We also bought the owner's tow vehicle. We are totaly newbies but are excited to start the adventure!

Congrats!
Ask away if you need. Many are on forum standby right now.
Slide Out Society membership had one requirement, ownership. You passed. Now if you want to officially join just say hi on the Slide Out Society thread. No dues.

Welcome aboard. Feel free to stop by, or at least wave on passing, any Slider you encounter to communicate "howdy" during your trips.

Yes!! You’ll have to post some pictures once you get all settled in. I don’t know you from Adam, but I’m super excited for you and your new purchase. It sounds like a great find and I can’t wait to see it.
