1976 Overlander

I have passed an Airstream TT parked next to a large storage building for 3 yrs. now while deer hunting about 75 miles away from home. Every time I passed the area, I have wanted to stop and look it over. Yesterday I spotted a truck parked next to it so I stopped. It is an Overlander manufactured at the end of 1976. Is this approximately 27'? A gentleman came out and we introduced ourselves. The trailer belongs to his brother who recently went through bypass surgery. I did not ask if the trailer was for sale but he said that many had stopped by to ask if it was. He said that he thought that if his brother's kids didn't want it then it would probably be sold. I explained that I had the Airstream bug and had a '77 31' model that had a manufactured date of one month later, 1-77. He told me that I could go inside but that mice had been in there so bait had been layed out. I opened the door and went in to see mice droppings all around and the smell of mouse urine. It has the same control panel as my trailer. I opened the frig. and smelled the strong odor of ammonia that a box of Arm & Hammer Baking Soda had given up on. I know that I want a '80-'83 model Excella II in a few years to go smaller but to see this trailer going to waste made my heart sink. As I left, I couldn't help myself ask him to please try to keep the mice out and we discussed options for the frig. He said to stop by anytime to talk and I told him that I would be happy to. He has been practicing law for almost 30 years, do you think it is safe to go back? Just kidding!

Craig,

Beware Airstream's are like potato chips. One is never enough. I am on my third one. There is a signifant difference in the towing behaviours going down from 31 to 27 feet. We went the other way and I did have to make some adjustments.

Mice can be evicted, refers can be replaced. The smell???? well if it can be had for a reasonable (Cheap!) price you may end up moving down before your planned schedule. Airstreams are like cats sometimes, they pick their new owners. Beware!

Brett,
I never thought about the Airstream picking me. That's funny because the previous owner of my 31' from AZ made a comment to me after winning the bid on ebay. He said he had a feeling I would get the high bid based on the questions I asked him. I wonder if the trailer was whispering in his ear "Let him win me!"
Stranger things have been known to happen.
