1970 Sovereign Airstream

I have a chance to buy a 1970 AS Sovereign. The guy is asking $3200.00. The exterior panels are in good shape. The tires are toast. The belly pan is great. The interior is dinghy. I am so new to AS so please help me out. Based on what I said above, it seams like a great deal.
I jumped on the bumper and she seems solid as a rock.
I would love any and all opinions as to what you all think.
Thanks.

Sounds like a fine deal. A lot of cleaning and you will be able to tell what you really have. I'd buy it. Tow it home at slow speed and be prepared to stop and check the tires often. Carry fix a flat with you.be sure the lights work or bring along a set of trailer tow lights. You could get tires installed before towing if you are uncomfortable.

Don't rush to remove any interior items until you see them after a good cleaning. Then you can plan on what to redo or replace.
If you are parking it outside, seal the seams around the vents and over the windows and door.

our present one was a 40 minute drive ..I took it at 30mph or so which made it a bit longer, but the old cracked looking tires held air...Once home I ordered a set of tires first thing.

Check the floor for rot, especially in the very rear and at the door.

I concur with the previous post, if there's nothing else you check, it's the condition of wood flooring at the rear. Serious design flaw allows water to flow right in at the rear !! It can be mild to fatal ...
