1960 Safari registration in New York without title

Hi, I'm new to here and planning to buy 1960 Safari but current owner doesn't have title since it came from GA which is a non tile state.
Has anyone done before register AS in NY state without title?
NY state won't issue title model older than 1973.
Any information is helpful.
Or is there way to get title from other state first and transfer the title to NY state?

Classic cars often don't have titles for the same reason. Every state is different but in many a bill of sale and a current or old registration with the sellers name is sufficient documentation to register the vehicle. Also some type of visual check of the vin by the proper agency may be needed. Call your DMV to verify what's required in your state.

I had no issue registering my 1970 Airstream in New York. As previously stated, I used a bill of sale and a current transferable registration as documentation. My trailer was not from out of state. However, I would think the process would be the same for an out of state sale. You will also need to pay sales tax at the time of registration.

I bought a 1964 Silver Streak last year without a title. I registered it in Vermont. Just needed a copy of the bill of sale and driver license #. Did it all online. I'm not going to transfer it to Texas. Why bother? I can just renew on line each year. Here's their website: https://dmv.vermont.gov/registrations/new


One thing to note: Vermont DMV does not issue a title for vintage trailers (can't remember the cut off year to determine vintage but the AS you're about to buy is older than my Silver Streak). They issue the registration, tag #, plate, and the sticker. So, if you think you're going to sell it in the future, this may not be the route to go. Or, your future buyer can also register it in Vermont.
