Roof seam advice

On each end of my 87' Argosy Squarestream there is the rivet seem that once had a vinyl piece of molding over it. I have spent days scrapping others poor caulking jobs and plan to reseal it. Is it possible to go right over these aluminum trim strips with Eternabond? or am I better off caulking the seams with Tempro and finding vinyl trim that fits?

Any advice from anyone that has resealed an entire trailer would be greatly appreciated.
