roof brackets.

I was on the roof of my 73 landyacht covering up the broken vents to stop moisture intrusion before I begin the demo work. I noticed these brackets and have no idea what they are for. their are 3 of them total 2 on the left rear and 1 on the right rear. I know someone out there knows. Please clue me in. Thanks in advance.

Looks like a vent pipe (for gray & black water system) cover. Are they cast like these? https://www.vintagetrailersupply.com...p/vts-1081.htm

Those are the vents for your plumbing system. There is a rubber gasket under them that is probably cracked and must be replaced. The vents are ABS pipe and the gasket fits around the pipe. There is a drain on the bottom side of the cast cover that must remain open so that rain water can drain out and not into your tanks. Water can enter your trailer if the gaskets are bad and not replaced. Not a big cost or job. Available from Out of Doors mart or other Airstream suppliers.

Those vent either go to the holding tanks or are inline with the drain lines to prevent the "P" traps from being siphoned dry when water is flowing from the sink or other water devices. New gaskets are inexpensive and they are easy to replace.

The gaskets are worse than useless. A good urethane caulk works as good or better. Better yet get some of the zinc plated steel vents from VTS and replace them with something that won't leak.

Zink plated steel isn't good w/aluminum as cause of galvanic action that will destroy or severly harm aluminum IMO.

When you replace the gasket be sure to replace or install the screen over the vent pipe to keep bugs out of the system. I prefer the gasket over caulking as some of the gaps between the pipe and roof cutout are sometimes large, and you have a good seal. I replace my gaskets about every 5 years. Easy to do when resealing the vents stc on the roof
