Why is that, exactly? From everything I've seen it's the acetic acid additive released during curing that causes damage, and I don't see why a silicone product that doesn't use that chemical reaction would cause issues.

Silicone rubber is pretty inert, which is why it's used for spatulas and cupcake tins and such. I don't think a silicone cupcake tin on my roof would cause issues, but I can't say I've tested it.

I'm not trying to say you're wrong, if you know something I don't I'd love to learn

I looked hard at the MSDS for the Tropi-Cool and did not see Acetic Acid... but what do I know!

I bought what I did, based upon:
1/ Elastomeric is tried, accepted and tons of good feedback(Ceramicoat was Elastomeric, and Bus-Kote is Elastomeric, and both got/get rave reviews).

2/ "Silicon+Airstream=Bad News" that was fed to me on arriving here 9 years plus ago...

The thread title is "Anyone tried Henry Enviro-White?".
Seems like many have, with no negative feedback so far.

So, lets stay on track... I was specific, so lets stay specific.

If someone has a great opinion, based upon actual long term experience, using a silicon based roof coating, they can post a thread titled "I used a silicon based product X.... and it was great for X years with no issues".

Thanks!

Yesterday was a full day at the Motorhome.
I did not get any more of the roof paint done, as I installed a new MaxxFan, in the bedroom. Will wait until the sealant on that is dry before I do more.
It was a warmer day than last time, and a last time, and a taste of things to come.
Bright, sunny day. Ambient temperature was about 80f.
Whilst I was up on the roof, doing the vent, the temperature on the painted surface was very noticeably cooler. I could easily rest my hand on the white, which read 87f, but not on the polished sections which was tricky to get a reading on, but was about 100f.
A little later, I did the same test I did last time, bedroom roof, under painted area, and bedroom side wall, which is polished.

Took a quick picture of the cured texture of the paint, for reference. I still want to do a test with a smoother texture roller to see if it will be better.
Blobby piece on the bottom left was my fault, as i touched the first coat before it was set.

Anyone tried Henry Enviro White?

Did the whole roof yesterday.
Two coats.
Tried the shorter Nap roller, and the finish was better.
The rear got a 3rd coat and I’m calling that done.
Used the same prep method, but this time used a more aggressive pad on the Eastwood SCT. Worked great and because the pad was more aggressive, you can just let the weight of the tool do the work.
Example area before and after.

So, 2 coats on front section and 3 on rear. New forward Maxxfan installed.
Will probably put one more coat on what I did yesterday sometime.
34.5 Airstream Motorhome, and I have barely used 1 and 1/3 gallons.

Do you have a close up of the finish with the short napp roller for comparison?
Looking good!

I spent the day on the roof of my Argosy, checking seals, replacing vent gaskets and covers, and building a new shroud for my Armstrong A/C (still going strong at 45 years!!!).

I had been following Sarge12212's thread about Henry's Tropicool, and decided to see if I could find some other posts on the product since he hasn't had his on for long (I want to know about longevity).

So I'm curious how Keyair's Henry's EnviroWhite has held up over the years, and if anyone can chime in on how other products (like Tropicool have held up).

I am interested in these off-the-shelf options vs. things like BusKote and HyTech that are much more expensive and seem to require a lot more surface prep (sanding down to the metal and scuffing the metal). I'm not afraid of proper prep work, but if there is a good product that only requires a good degrease and clean vs. sanding to the metal, I'm all for it.

I know a bright white surface will reduce interior temps, and that is ultimately what I am after, and I don't feel I need to go the extra mile (and extra dollars) for "magical negative space balls" suspended in the paint, so I'm really curious how the Henry's products hold up over time.

Thanks in advance for anyone's report on how the products have held up!

Follow up on using Henry's Enviro White

Does anyone have any feedback regarding the use of Henry's Enviro-White, or Tropic Cool, for painting the coach roof?? Its been a few years since this thread started, and would love to hear some feedback on how the product performed over time.

I have noticed that Enviro White is in short supply at the Big Box stores, but Tropic Cool is still available.

I have had the Enviro White on the top of my Argosy since June 2021, and it is holding up great. We fulltime, and travel all over through all conditions. I have seen no signs that it needs to be done again anytime soon. It's not the easiest to clean especially with my solar panels, but it is holding up very well.

Unfortunately my Argosy with the Henry's on the roof caught fire and I used the insurance money to switch to a 1977 GMC (and for the record, the GMC is clearly a far superior vehicle). Thus, I can't speak to longevity for the Henry's.

I do still have 3/4 of a 5 gallon bucket in my (heated) garage if you wanna swing by (from NC ) and pick it up!

Still trying to decide if I'll use the Henry's on any of my other Aisrtream restomods, or if I'm going to switch to something *harder* like BusKote. The Henry's seemed like it would do a great job of filling in cracks and crevices (sealing the roof) when I used it, but it's a little rubbery, so I'm not sure how it ages (which I know is your real question --sorry I can't give you more info on that front).

One thing I do know for sure is that the white roof made a HUGE difference in summer interior temps, especially out here in always sunny CO.

Follow up on using Henry's Enviro White

KidJedi,

Thanks for the reply.

If the Henry leftovers are still good next summer, I might just stop by and pick it up, if only to get a peek at that GMC...those are really cool. I am hoping to head out west as soon as my A/S is finished.

JCRC, Thanks for your reply.
I am going with the Henry acrylic product.
