Bumper damage

Some complete moron (oh yeah, that was me) backed into an unseen pole. Can this bumper be repaired by a mere mortal, or does it require replacement. The only apparent damage is what you see.

Replace it.

That's why you have insurance.

I did the same thing as you several years ago. That bumper is pretty easy to remove, just a few screws. You will save labor costs if you take it off yourself and sell it for scrap, and the money you save on the labor offsets the cost of a new one.

Oh no...Wanda Fa has a dimple in her 'but'...

That's not gonna be an easy fix...

In my old sports cars days, I'd drill a 1/2 hole in the middle of the dent, put a plate inside the bumper, bolt thru the plate and hole to a chain around a tree...and pull forward...

add a few bumper stickers...

I have to say the chain and tree idea appeals to my warped senses (sounds like a project that beer would improve the results), but I think unscrewing it and replacing it sounds a little less risky.

If there was someone else suffering from the same affliction, we could almost have ourselves a "tractor pull". Giddyup.

That does not seem that bad.. Find a buddy with a hydraulic press and press it back out.

You will find you have to press it out more than you think and it will relax back a little.

I did this on mine.

Heat er up with a torch and hit it with a body hammer. Then have wassagachris polish it (just kidding) Go after it with some aggressive compound to remove any dimples remaining

Well, that's why we have bumpers! Imagine the damage if the bumper hadn't been there to take the hit! Should be a relatively straightforward fix/replacement as long as the supports are not bent.

We're going to need more beer.

Sounds like Xtreme Makeover - Airstream Edition.

Sadly, this will not be my first rodeo trying to fix problems (dings, dents, scratches) I alone caused. I think it builds character.

I suppose the cost of a new bumper will come into play here - don't have a clue what replacement would cost. I may decide this is simply a love tap.

We can chain our bumpers together and have a tractor pull and see who's get straight first. Question is ? Where do you get a new bumper for my 68. I was thinking a scrap yard and what ever looked cool.
