Yes, all Airstreams should have rear bumpers IMO.

Is that a solar panel you also added? What is the combined weight of everything you have added to the rear? The new weight back there could add to sway issues IMO, especially if your fresh water tank is also located aft of the [single?] axle like our FC20. Plenty of threads about sway, like the "Out of Control Sway" one.

Caution advised, including some test runs with you trying to induce sway, while having one hand ready on the brake controller, in order to dampen any trailer sway ASAP. Important that you weigh your rig carefully, with any weight distribution hooked up. Also get an exact reading for your tongue weight, as the new rear weights will certainly affect that. Reducing the tongue weight promotes sway.

Good luck,

Peter

I didn’t realize there were models without bumpers. They sure are handy. Great job on the install.

One thing I’ll mention is that I believe most Airstream bumpers are not weatherproof (mine certainly is not). So that might not be the best place to store electrical cables unless they are in bags or other containers.

Did you fabricate that or was it a purchased part. I’d like to do the same with mine.

Pictures please

Hi - I saw your post on the bumper added to your 22ft FB. I have the same coach. It is currently in the shop and I am considering adding the bumper. Just wondering how it will look. Any chance you can post more pictures of the full coach with bumper? Side view, 3/4 and from behind? And any feedback you have about adding the bumper to your coach. Do you like it? Any drawback? Thanks!
