Washer with rubber for belly pan rivet?

Using a stainless metal washer with a bonded rubber side between the rivet and the pan seems to be a reasonable way to fix belly pan rivets which have pulled through the aluminum. Anything I am missing?

That should work. If the frame you are riveting to is rusted out you may have to drill some new holes or the rivet might pull right out of the old hole..

My AS belly pan isn't aluminum.

I'd probably go with a oversized all metal washer and a rivet.

I have been patching the area with about a 2x2 piece of heavier aluminum and re-riveting with a large head rivet.

You can get large flange aluminum rivets. I've used lots of them to re-rivet the belly pan - with 1/2 flanges they'll usually do the trick. On a couple with even larger tear-outs, I cut small circles from aluminum bar stock to use as large rivet washers.

You can also use a piece of plastic freezer bag to separate the Stainless Steel from the Aluminum, although an oversized steel rivet will work , it’s stronger than an Aluminum rivet.

Great suggestions...thank you. I have already gone to the larger rivets which are now pulling through. I like the idea of a new piece of aluminum. I have a few of the rubber lined washers installed and will report their performance.
