It's too late...now I'm putting polysporin on the raw spots from the scotchbrite pad. It still looked better at the doctor's office than black paint splotches all over my legs! I'll heal before next Friday.....

Dang Becky,

You're tough...acetone and scrubby pads. Do you do root canals with no anesthesia as well?

Glad you've come clean.

Have fun in Mexico,

Kevin

No, but one time I got a fish hook stuck in my foot & I pushed it through! This little kid who was watching me fainted. It was quite the good story when I got back to the condo!

I had a similar experience several years ago with a 3/8" bit through the thumb nail. Had to reverse the drill so I could get loose. Girlfriend almost passed out, but I told her someone had to drive me to the ER.

I've always said "You ain't hurt unless the bone shows"...Well in the bone did show that time. Most painful thing I've ever done.

Achie wawa!

Okay now I have a subject related question. I have the BAL stabilizer legs in the basement. I took them apart (I have a couple bolts to grind off) for painting. Should I POR-15 them (dread) or bring them in for powder coating. Any reason that would be bad? I have a place that's really reasonable & I'd love to not do that job! They're really nasty & greasy & rusty! Would that be okay as long as they don't do the threads?

Hi, I would think it would be cheaper to just buy new stabilizers instead of zink coating / galvanized, powder coating, or any other cosmetic repairs.

I looked at Out of Doors Mart & each one would cost about $70 once I had it shipped & had the foot (which I have). I think I can get all of it powder coated for that much. I'll take it over there & see what they say. The rust isn't bad. Just a messy job to clean up the grease & surface rust before painting. Maybe I'll just have it all sandblasted & then POR-15 it.

A good salt water soaking will take care any remaining spots. Have fun!

Well, I took the stabilizers and had them powder coated. Cost me $130 for all of them. Bought all new stainless nuts & bolts for $50. So, it cost me about half the price of new ones---hopefully they'll keep from rusting for a while!

Cozumel was nice & warm. Thankfully, the abrasion scabs were gone by then! I didn't see any Airstreams there!

Hey Becky,

Glad to hear your spots have healed up and the trip went well.

Would love to see some pics of the PC. What color did you go with?

Here's the before & after of the powder coat. I hope I can get them on next spring! I took before pictures so I could figure out how to get it back together again!

Look like brand new Becky.

Now what are you going to do with the money you saved?

Let's see......lots and lots of aluminum for the belly pan and banana wrap. I have a pneumatic rivet gun and an electric stapler on my Christmas list, so I won't have to buy them. (most moms don't even know what a pneumatic rivet gun is...I think I'm on the crazy end of the mom list!) I think aluminum would be hard to wrap, though!

Well, I'm going stir crazy with the winter. I hauled in the banana wrap pieces that I took off to get started on cutting new pieces. I tarped the basement & hope I can get all the metal nibs up that flew all over the place! I bought the aluminum from a local supplier. They had it on a coil. It is primed & ready for painting (which I'll do once it's on). My air compressor didn't keep up with the nibbler too well, but it was better than cutting by hand. I have all the pieces cut now & will go back & dig the belly pan out from the snow later! That should be a piece of cake to measure & cut.

I got the rivet gun for Christmas & bought a pneumatic stapler from HF around the corner. Now I just have to get the outriggers welded so when it warms up a bit I can paint the rear section with POR-15. I have all the Prodex in my shop so I'm ready to go!

I decided that we should have one of those nice tire carriers like Mr. Sovereign documented here. My husband made one for me (he stole my project, but he did a fabulous job--much better than I could!). So, I put the Prodex insulation up along with the belly pan in the A frame section. Now I'm moving on to insulating the middle section of the front. The question is---I have enough insulation to do 3 layers of Prodex. I've already cut enough for 2 layers. Would 3 be overkill, not make any difference, or make such a small difference that it's not worth the extra effort?

Thanks in advance!
