Shortening the tank support pan.

1979 Safari. Some will be familiar with the rear pan that supports the gray water tank. It passes rearward beyond the last cross member and out under the rear bumper storage tray. I've got mine out currently and I'm getting ready to put it back. While working on everything back there it seems like the section that passes beyond the last cross member's only purpose is to catch water and funnel it into the rest of the pan so it can rust. I'm thinking of cutting it off at the last cross member and sealing it up from there. Anybody see any issues with this? Ii can't think of any.
