Step repair

Well I found a rotten spot in my floor . At the door so I though might as well fix the steps while I am at it. Here is the first pictures. Many more to follow Billy

That seems to be a very common area for floor rot. We had it there in our Excela, too. Good luck with your repair!

Rotted flooring at the entrance door area is caused by a bad door gasket and/or a warped door frame.

This is what I have needed to fix for a while, it went bad soon after I got the trailer. The second picture is the new rail, Billy

Make sure you coat all the exposed metal with a good rust proofing paint (e.g., POR-15). Better check out the wheel wells. They're prone to rusting out, too.

Warped door frame or gasket? My door does not shut good these days, I have to hold the latch open for it to latch and just not bounce off. Is that a sign of a warped door?

I would first try adjusting the corner jack by the door. If that is incorrectly adjusted it will produce the symptoms you describe.

Try silicone spray on the striker bolt and striker pocket.

Works wonders.

Similar with my 77 International. Weak floor at door, while replacing floor discovered outriggers for door ( slotted ) were ~ 1/2 rusted away at the bottom of each outrigger. Was gonna postpone the outrigger replacement and quite by accident as I moved the AS with the steps down. My wrong . The steps were very strong as they bent while striking the tree. Have removed the 2 old doorway outriggers, purchased new and also several step parts had to be repaired / replaced. Now I am ready to reinstall it all. Question ???? How far apart are the outriggers to be when welded back on the frame? They are the aluminum 2 steps. 22" 22 1/8" ??? Many Thanx in advance. Jim & Mitzi

But I tell you what....I have repaired a view on my friends SOBs. They are mayhem waiting to happen. The mechanical advantage of a 250 person plopping down on a step that is over a foot away from where it is attached, often not so well, is like taking a crowbar to the fasteners. Compounded by rotten wood and or rusty metal. I almost feel lucky that I don't have a step.
