Hi
While you are spraying lube on the steps, check the tightness of the bolts. They ...errr ... .do sometimes just fall off.
=======
Since ODM *is* an Authorized Airstream Dealer, it's tough for me to understand why you would *not* want to get the parts from them. They have the advantage that they actually *do* stock the parts. That's quite different than another dealer one *might* drive to to get the parts. They don't stock them and claim it will take 60 to 90 days for them to order the parts in .... yikes ..... (after claiming on the phone that the parts were a stock item ... )

I gave up on repairing that step. The constant weight and twisting wears it out again quickly, and repairing the outrigger is a pain. I went with a single step that locks back in place when traveling, is very sturdy, and in most campsites is spaced midway between the trailer and the ground. When it is a bit high, I have an $8 folding step from Home Depot that works great, folds flat, and can be used for other needs.
I do have the old steps if someone is interested in purchasing them.

New steps installed
I just had these installed at my work and love them. I can’t wait to take them out next month to alumapoolza at Jackson center.

That looks really great. Are the two feet adjustable meaning do they slide in or out of their sleeves for those fine 1/2”ish adjustments based on your campsite? And looks like they screw in to the threshold, yes? Very nice indeed!

Yep. Totally adjustable. I had to modify the door jam threshold a little bit but nothing more then 5 minutes. Then they screw into the floor and flip up and down in a matter of seconds.

No. Well sort of, I work at MORryde, high centered my ‘92 classic last year and talked them into making aftermarket steps like those you see on new fifth wheels and trailers. Airstream is still saying they don’t think their customers will want them but I bet once people and dealers see them on mine at rally’s and forums hopefully it will catch on.

Dang! I just replaced a set of stairs I wrecked on the road (long story) would much rather have had these available. Is a 2-step version commercially available for Airstreams??

It will be hopefully by the end of May. We want Airstream to be involved in some of the design aspect but so far they don’t think AS owners will make the switch. We are hoping retail will be less then $500 but that’s up to much higher ranking people then myself. If we need another step installed on an AS I’ll keep you in mind and try to work out a good intro price.

Airstream service has a direct aluminum replacement step for the steel step. You remove the 4 bolts from steel step and replace with the aluminum step and reinstall the 4 bolts. I believe the retail cost is $499. Here is a picture of my steps, which I purchased and had installed at JC. They are make by Torklift. The legs are adjustable and so are the steps, (3 levels of upper adjustment and 3 levels of lower adjustment. No more "diving board effects and trailer shake when exiting or entering the trailer". Part number 380002, torklift glow step.

Well that’s a cool option too Hiho Silver....but $5 bills is really steep for steps (which is fun to type by the way...).
I got an aluminum replacement set for a bit over $100 - could have gone steel for half that - but the feature of solid ground contact to avoid the bounce as in yours and Farren’s examples is very tempting....I’m sort of wondering if just placing a block under the bottom stair accomplishes the same goal and can be done on the cheap [emoji3]

HI there - I can't seem to bring up the right search results to identify that little specialized round grommet thing that connects the steps ....as you can see I have no idea what to call it. If you could advise what it is called that would be much appreciated. Cheers Lori
