Converting Steps

My step will not lock out on the aft end. New airstream's has done a way with the this type of steps, and have gone to a simple folding step. Has any one changed out the old and gone to the new type? I'm thinking that's what I want to do. Camping World has a set #82431 but it is 24" wide and Airstream is 21". Thinking that just cut the outrigger off and re-weld it back on to fit. Any opinions?

I dont have my trailer here, but i changed out my old style single step for a double step which was wider. My step was attached to the frame, i think, but definitely not to an outrigger. I drilled two new holes in the frame and it bolted right up.
