Completely removing fold down steps

Hi, my fold down steps are in bad shape on my 1979 31' International. The slides that they use to go up and down with also leave a huge potential mouse entry point. I'd just as soon remove the whole step mechanism and buy a sheet of aluminum to cover the whole area. Anybody got any tips on how to get the one remaining step out of there? I was able to undo the nuts on the inside but couldn't get the screws out that hold the step in the slide.

It was the 2 step entry but only one step remains attached right now.

hi- not sure about your '79, but on my '72 you would need access from the other side to be able to un-do the allen-head bolt and nut holding the step to the sliding slot. Meaning, you have to let down the belly pan in those areas. While you're at it, you might as well keep going.... Good luck- tim

Hmmm, I wonder if I can't get at those things with a sawzall without ripping the belly pan open. I just finished securing by belly pan this month, but it really wasn't loose in the area around the steps.

I know this is an old post just hope to get a responce to my problem. I wan't to repair my fold down steps. Where to get the parts and the hardware if any would be helpful.
