Trim coming off...

Hello All,

The trim has come loose over the winter on my 20fb Bambi. Is this just glued on? Can I just glue it back on? And, with what?

I will wait until it is warmer as the trim has shrunk with the cold.

Thanks in advance.

Curt

That trim comes in a long roll and is 3m taped on the back. You can probably 3m it again BUT it will need to be redone eventually with new trim.

I reinstalled it with 3M tape as noted above. It's held on for a few thousand miles but could fall off tomorrow. Similar 3M tape as installing LED ribbon lighting. I've purchased the tape from Amazon. You will need to remove the entire strip with a plastic putty knife. Then reinstall the entire strip (no partial repair); otherwise, you'll be doing it again shortly. The strip is one inch wide, IIRC. Using one-inch wide tape is tricky so buy the next smallest size. Do not bend the trim backward because the surface will wrinkle. Remove all glue from both the trim and the trailer. It comes off easily. Apply 3M tape prep to both and let it dry. It is a dry-day sort of job. Seems I found it easier to tape the channel first then apply the trim.

Replacement trim can be purchased as previously mentioned. Seems I got it from Woodland. I had to replace a strip near the front that had taken abuse from road grit.

Thank you both for responding...

Inside the silver trim is what appears to be a piece of black rubber. Is that the original tape? Trailer not here... in storage. Maybe I will run back to storage and look more closely.

Yes, IIRC. That is the original tape. Remove all traces of it. Seems that it peels off relatively easily. The tape you buy will be similar.

Depending on date of manufacture, some trims had foam tape, later the 3M tape.
I've re-adhered loose trim with windshield gasket adhesive, Lexel caulk, etc.
I spread some on back of the flexible trim, then pressed it into the aluminum strip. I used screws on each side of the trim, wedged in the space between aluminum and plastic at 4 or 5 inches apart, to hold it in place until the adhesive cured overnight. So far, the repair on my Safari has lasted about 8 or 9 years.

I also used some two side foam tape.
The adhesive is better.

Ok... I see... The trim is a black plastic core with silver plastic wrap. The two-way tape is on the black core. Correct?

Thanks for the responses!!!

The black core stays. The two-way tape is very thin. I don’t see any tape residue in the photo. Maybe it completely deteriorated; hence, the separation.

From that black core the tape can be rolled up with a finger. Whatever remains are in the channel might need some gentle coaxing. Remove dirt from all surfaces to be taped, then prep, etc as mentioned earlier.

One more thought…

Scrape a corner of the black core with a fingernail to see if the tape is still there.

Again, thanks much for the responses. Will need to wait for warmer weather, but I now have a handle on it.
