Restoring Exterior Badges
Hi all
The badges on my '68 Ambassador are very faded and in poor condition. What is the best way to restore them? Were they once chrome plated with some red and blue paint applied over the chrome?
They're so far gone I can't work out what they looked like when they were new.

You can strip them and paint them, white , red , and blue. I used an auto paint and a small brush. Looks fine...on my 78.

I would also like to know what people have done with these items. Specifically the pot metal script emblems.
Mine are all still intact but the are pitted. Is there a way to fill the pits and have them re-coated? ...possibly powder-coat?
Anybody restore these items to like new?

Cast Aluminum..
Most of the Side Emblems were cast aluminum, not pot metal, but were not treated to prevent corrosion after paint applied at factory wore off...
You could have yours bead blasted to go after corrosion and repaint. Poweder coating might be expensive, but is also an option. Whatever option, a spray clearcoat after cleanup could help prevent future deterioration..
And use some non-silicone sealant when re-attaching if you remove emblems, to avoid creating water leak path down side of trailer...

Searched for badges...nothing relevent, tried emblems...lots of stuff. My American vocabulary is growing daily.
Some nice write ups, I'll have my emblems looking like new in no time (once the AS turns up - it's in Baltimore waiting for a ship).

Problem is, I need to put material back on... not blast it off. The main surface is in pretty good shape with the exception of these occasional large pits about the size of a BB. I think I need to find a way to fill the pits and then re-coat with silver.
