remove clear coat and re coat one panel at a time.
The upper half of my trailer, particularly the end caps, are pretty well sun scalded or oxidized. I tried stripping a small area with Ctristrip and it worked well. The Al underneath is a little discolored but not bad. I do not want to polish the trailer. It is a 88 model and sorta rough in lots of spots anyway. I just want to get rid of the crummy looking clear coat and get something on it so I do not have to do it every year.
I am going to try stripping and recoating one panel at a time.
What would be a good material to clear coat with? Plasticote clear laquere? Is there a Al clear coat that comes either in liquid or aerosol form?
Short of polishing with a Cylco (I just don't want to get that dirty and hot) is there a way to blend it out with something like automotive wet or dry or some other technique.

Thanks A. W. I just ordered the 4 cans they had in stock. Hope they can get more. I looked for it in the Airstream store and it was not there.
Did you do anything to clean up the Al after stripping? Or just strip and recoat?

I believe Sikkens makes a single stage clear that has direct application on aluminum which will work.

It's been a few years, but as I remember: I pressure washed with water to get the stripper out of the crevices. Then I cleaned with mineral spirits and a plastic scrub pad before wiping down with micro fiber cloth.

I've been hearing some good things about Nyalic for recoating Airstreams. I've had no experience with it, so I can't vouch for it, but their website is impressive..

I've used Nyalic to recoat the cast aluminum pieces and also re-clear coated areas where filiform was removed and re-silver painted. The product sprays or brushes nicely. It's a polymer base and is used on painted or bare aluminum. The company told me they know of two Airstreams completely re coated with their product. Their website covers uses and they will talk if you call.

I did find a picture of a very good looking Airstream on the nyalic website. I am impressed.
Thanks for the tip
