Painting the skin with aluminum paint..

Help me!
I have found a 69' Safari that I am very interested in. But the man does not have any photos of it.....AND rather than removing and fixing some dents in the skin, he had it bondoed with aluminum bondo and sprayed with aluminum paint over that. Says that is what Inland RV does on their $100k restorations....I can't find any info on this at all. Can anyone tell me if that is OK, or if I should stay away from buying it.

Hi, and welcome to the forums. Do a search for more information about Painting Airstreams. Some people do do it, and if it is done right it can look spectacular. If it is done wrong, it can look horrible! Make sure you like the paint job that is on it! I would say you will need to see this trailer in person to make your decision. Just remember, you can't tell for sure what's under that paint or how good a job was done until it's had some time to wear. As we say in the classic car hobby - paint can cover many sins...

Bob Thompson gives a superb description of this painting procedure at

If done well, this seems to me an excellent system.
Nick.
