Oxidation/Corrosion around taillights

We just bought our first AS, 2007 Safari SE 19'. I was spending some time cleaning it today and there are a couple spots of corrosion which I wanted to ask to see the best way to tackle it. Or is it better to leave it alone? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Posted this too soon. Just did some reading on the forum and I think my best bet will be to remove them, sand the clear coat off and get the corrosion off and finish by re-spraying a clear coat.

Good plan...all but the re-spraying.

I did the battery frames for the "Cloudsplitter".
Got them to pretty well match the AS panels, then lightly polish with 3M Aluminum polish when needed. Finally a light wax.

Eight years ago we had a local auto paint shop (through Vinnie) clean, prime and paint our rear tail light pods, furnace plate and hot water heater plate with a metallic grey to match the aluminum around it. We have a 2008 27FB. I replaced the chrome eyebrows on the tail lights at the time which look like they are pitting a little. Pictures for from this morning (8 Aug, 2020). - Brad

We recently had to replace our trailering lights because they were out. This particular model year the tear drop trailering lights are seated in an aluminum bezel and then secured to the trailer. On replacement, a few had the white corrosion Filiform. Like many threads mention, there is a little chemical reaction going on. So I took the bezel in for analysis to see what was contributing to my problem. Here are the results: 99.4% Aluminum, 0.0208% Manganese and 0.038 % Iron. And there is the ugly truth, especially when you add water.


After treatment, we slipped a “plastic washer” between the trailer and the bezel and re-secured. Yes, that is a plastic water bottle converted to an Airstream anti-corrosion “washer.” Time will tell if it works.
