Newby with roof question.

Recently bought our first AS. 1979, 31 ft., Sov. International. The roof area appears to need to be redone with the clear coat. There are small areas that look like a matte finish. Do I need to sand these small areas and spray with clear? Do you usually sand and spray the entire roof?

No sanding. You would have to do the entire roof to do it right. For me, unless your doing a restoration the cost would not be worth it. If it doesn't leak, enjoy. My roof was painted by a previous owner, now the paint is peeling off. It was sanded to help the paint stick. Won't ever get those scratches out. It adds personality.

My 1977 roof was in bad shape. After a couple rallies in Rapid City at 103 degrees, with no shade and insufficient electricity to run the Air at the Internationals, I decided to paint it white. It helped reduce interior temperature by about 10 degrees. You could do it yourself with oil base paint or "Kool Seal". You do not paint the end caps, so those would need to be chemically stripped and PlastiCoat reapplied. You could take the trailer to P&S in Ohio and have it professionally done, if you are not confident it would look good done at home.
