Nobody likes to be wrong, But when I am wrong I will be the first to admit it, and I was wrong about using a self-etching primer on aluminum, I have done some research and it seams it will bond good but has a reaction with the oxidized aluminum, since it has to be sprayed on a dry surface and aluminum starts oxidizing the second it is dry, so it is impossible to spray it. So I went to the local airport and talked to them. They remove the paint, wash with Alumni Prep 33 then rinse with water and keeping the surface wet, so the aluminum dosen't start to oxidize, coat with alodine 1201 then rinse that and you are ready to prime and paint. I am still going to use the self-etching primer on the end caps as I do have experience with that metal and know it works. So thanks Andy for making me do some research on this matter. It still amazes me the wealth of information you can get from this forum. Thanks again to one and all. Marvin

Being wrong happens to all of us, sooner or later.

The idea, I think, is to correct the "wrongs" as soon as possible, so that someone doesn't follow that suggestion or advice and then find themselves in deep dukey.

I also think that is why this site is the "GREATEST."

There will always be the dissenters, and they are certainly free to be that, if they so choose.

But because many many rewcomers to the Airstream way of life, look to this site for information, we should all strive to provide information that is reasonably correct.

Heresays, I thought, I would guess, humble opinions, it worked for me, are all subjective opinions, that each person has the right to express.

However, facts are facts, that can be proven over and over again, and are really "the bottom line."

It is to that end, that I think most members of this site enjoy in it's participation.

Hi Gang,

Alodine is an etch designed for aluminum prep. It is a must do in the aircraft world as it seals the aluminum and preps the surface for the paint bond (chemical conversion). Good stuff, if a little messy.

Happy here's an atta-boy for your correction.
But where is the mistake posted? Perhaps you could edit-add a link from this thread to that thread.
Seems that might be a good place for the notice too. In fact in the original thread might be the BEST place to post Corrections.
