clearcoat or plasticoat

Did the 1970 airstream's have clearcoat or plasticoat? How can we find out?

Clearcoat, but you might not have any left. You can do the toothpaste test to find out. Put some toothpaste on your finger and rub it on the area you want to check. If it turns black (aluminum oxide) your clearcoat is gone.

There are a few dealers around the country that still do replasticoating.

There are also some dealers that paint the trailer metallic silver, which costs more, but when properly done, it will outlast the clear finish by at least 20 years.

Some say the value will decrease, but to the knowledgeable owner, the value increase, since you won't have to reclearcoat anymore.
