Brass Badge Logos

The "AIRSTREAM" logos on the front and back of my trailer failed.
At first I just planned on replacing them, but that wouldn't be any fun. Plus they're $110 each for the set.

This is the back set:


I found a font in Solidworks that is pretty close to the one the factory used and drew up some letters with the same size.


I had them cut with a CNC laser shop with 3/4" around the letters so I could use the 'drop' as my line up tool.


There's more radius to the panel than I thought, so I rolled them with a sheet of stainless so they'd lay flat.

I used the drop to line up my letters and glued them in place with this stuff called Lexel. Not sure if that was a good choice, but I'm experimenting.


I thought I could apply just the right amount of glue, but I still made a mess.


A couple days later I pulled off the template and then spent a couple hours carefully removing all (most of) the glue.


It looks pretty good, but I put a few scratches in the brass removing the glue, and I realized that even fingerprints left orange spots of oxidation.


When I have some time, I'm going to put the template back up there and polish the letters. I bought some brass preservative called Protectaclear. It's a lot like Everbrite, but made for polished metal.

I'll update as I go.

I also refurbished the emblems. I don't know if these are badges, emblems, logos, or what. I painted the background with Charcoal Grey instead of the light blue that was there. Looks better now that I removed the blue striping.

I just realized looking at this pic this was before I replaced the chrome beltline bump strip. 2 hours removing the old 3M glue bonding and buffer wheel residue, and about 10 min to apply the new bump rail.

Wow, nice job!!

The 'golden' color of the brass does reflect what we pay for our Airstreams...

Perhaps some good old Brasso on the letters? It shouldn't harm the aluminum.
