Airstream letter fix?
My 2000 Bambi isn't bad looking, except for some clear coat peeling, but the Airstream letters front and back look terrible. The chrome finish has about flaked off. I thought I could sand them down and paint them, but I found that they are plastic with the chrome finish. Replacing them would not seem to be a possibility, as removing them would be very difficult I think.
Anyone find a fix? Paint?

New letters or brow badge is what you need.

Hi
Long Long Honeymoon on YouTube reciently did an airstream facelift which included new letters. Go look for it, I think you'll find it interesting. It was a fairly recient video.
Happy Travles!

Hi, for what Airstream wants for those letters / name plate I would paint them.

Sorry I don't have any photo's to send but recently I took all the letters off for the same reason. They are glued on with double faced adhesive and they come off very easy on a hot sunny day or with a heat gun. I carefully removed the adhesive backing with a razor blade and roughed up the surface with a scotchbrite pad and spray painted them with a rustolium blue that was close to the AS blue. A good urethane clear coat would be the best topcoat but I couldn't find any so I used a spray lacquer finish. It's been 2 years for the "AIRSTREAM" letters and I recently did the "EXCELLA" but haven't re-applied them yet. Use a good double faced tape to re-apply.

I think this might be what you are looking for.
ODM used to have them, but part #386051 is not listed when I look just now at their parts website.

ps:
My Safari has the same chrome lettering. While I was washing the trailer one day, I used my fingernail to scrape the surface of the letters. I found that crud on the surface would flake off when wet, and it made the surface of the letters look a lot better. I did not change mine.

Thanks everyone! I did think about removing them, but thought they'd take the clearcoat with them. Lots of options! Thinking about going flat black. I'll reply with pics when done.

If your careful and / or use a plastic blade on a warm sunny day they come off easy without damaging the clearcoat. Acetone or goo gone will remove the adhesive residue nicely.
