Airstream Blue

Anyone out there know where we could buy paint to re-touch our AIRSTREAM letters? We just bought a 1970 Tradewind and the letters are very faded. Thanks!

The best color match is Rustoleum Royal Blue in a spray can. Hopefully you can mask it with tape and spray the lettering.

Welcome and you have joined a Cult.

believe Inland RV has replacement placards. I kept my original on my 68 GT. I polished the placard first then sanded the remaining paint to give it tooth. I then masked the area around the letters and around the top of the trailer. I used a high quality paint form Harry’s Ace Hardware. I matched the color as close as I could. I think with trailers of all ages and condition close is good enough as all will have a different fade rate.

Now on my 2005 Safari I purchased the paint to touch up the hitch form Bill Thomas RV to match the existing paint exactly. They may have the exact blue you are looking for. They have great customer service.

If you want to replace these nameplates, they are available from VintageTrailerSupply.com

Enjoy their website if you haven't visited before.

Blue

The closest I've found is from DuPont, it's called Ford Grabber Blue. This is a base paint though and has to be mixed a shot with a gun.

One thing I have found looking at vintage Airstreams is that the blue seems to fade to any number of different hues. Touching up a spot on existing paint will certainly involve some mixing.
While many feel that Rustoleum "Royal Blue" is a good match for the original color, it seemed too deep of a shade for the GT. I've been using Rustoleum Painters Select "Spa Blue" to repaint the roof vents this year. It's darker than the faded paint but appears to my eye be a good match for some of the other trim on the coach.
Good Luck , let us know what you decide,
Tom.
