Does anyone know what the color of the lower portion that wrap under the trailer? My battery door needs to be re-painted due to some damage.

Thanks, Mary

Should I strip?

Are suggesting I strip all my paint off?

It's definitely painted. It's kind of a dark gray/silver metallic.

Your model was a dark grey/silver metalic as you describe. Pretty much all Airstream dealers carry the exact color in spray cans that you could order and have them ship to you. Contact a dealer near you by going to the Airstream, Inc. website for a listing of all dealers. Select one and contact them. Or, contact fellow forum member, Inland RV, there in California by googling Inland RV. They will be glad to help you.

Mary,

Not sure about your 1972, but I have found that Tempo Marine Motor Paint is a very close match for my 04 classic.

Tempo Marine Motor Paint
Mariner Gray 1977-1984
Part No. 020456/Model No. 6956

This paint was designed for outdrives and outboard boat motors. It has excellent adhesion and wear resistance. It is readily available at most marine stores at a fraction of the price of the Pewter paint available from Airstream.
