Great start to airstreaming huh?

You guys are cracking me up. I did not have any damage but on our last trip I was trying to pull into a CrackerBarrel and accidentally turned into a small hotel parking lot. Had to back out with cars everywhere.

I drove about 20 miles with one of my burners on, when it suddenly hit me. This was in a new airstream on my way home with it.

Crisis averted.

Adding antifreeze with low point drains open and not knowing where it was all going until I walked outside. Of course that was down South and the last antifreeze to be had until I got further North.

Shakedown cruise: Previous owner left the shower on and we inadverently flooded the trailer after hooking up. Winter trip: not refilling propane tanks when park offered service (regulator said we were OK - faulty reading) and running out of gas in a remote area. Last trip: dead bolt lock tripping on bumpy ride and calling locksmith who got the door open by turning the key the opposite way.

The manual awning that covers the back window has those two aluminum rods, one on each side to secure it in place. Well, I was putting it up one night, I took the tension off the awning and secured one rod when the pull tab on the awning slipped put of my hand and snapped the awning shut pushing the other aluminum rod thru the screen on the open window.

Adding antifreeze with the outside shower tap open... two years in a row. Stupid is as stupid does.

Swapped my WDH for my fixed hitch (shorter) for parking in my twisted driveway. Forgot about the kayaks being close to the front of the trailer and put a crease in the aluminum under the “AIRSTREAM” logo when I turned while backing up.

Hmmmm

Well I was thinking I’d have each of my kids (23 and 19) drive the rig on the Alaska Highway when we go next year, but maybe not!

We’re just starting out, so no failures using it yet, but I really failed when I didn’t research frame problems for the mid-2000’s International CCD’s. Cost me 6 months of work and my whole summer.

What fans did you end up using? I'd like to add one in the spring.
Thanks!

Dumby....

It's always best when the dumbest thing happens on the first trip.

On our first trip to our favorite and most familiar campground with our brand new 03 Classic.

We had been there many times with our 63, very cocky and self assured after 18 Seasons. Sunday morning on our last day and we, for once, we were ready to beat the crowd to the dump.

Now there's a one way wooden bridge on the road out, just before the Ranger station, and oh yes, with a slight turn on the approach.

DW was watching as I pulled out, and all of a sudden the arms started flailing like a wave off on the flight deck.

'Ya know something?....The Classic is a bit wider than a 63 Safari, and the wooden bridge railing was now nicely placed on the streetside panel above the H2o access door. Already had a nice 2ft scratch and I was determined not to cause any more "learning scarz".

What to do? Well it was real early and no one else was around so of-course we started to disassemble the bridge....well only the railing really. We were making pretty good progress when the Ranger came out for his morning coffee and asked..."what the hell do you think your doing?"
"taking the railing off so I don't cause any more damage to our new AS" said I.

Now by this time a crowd was starting to gather and I did hear some snickers coming my way.
A line had started to form behind us and I thought things were going to get rather tense. But after an extensive conversation with the Ranger and some of the waiting fellow campers it was decided to proceed full speed ahead. We all pitched in, shared tools and discussed the best plan of action.

We had the new AS unstuck and the bridge put back together in less than two hours.

And I was still first in line for the dump.

We still go back to the Campground and every once in awhile the Ranger or a fellow camper will say....."aren't you the ones who?…..”
"yes".
