What’s Funny about Airstreams & ASers?

What do ya’ll find humorous (funny or quirky) about Airstreams, ASers and/or their real and online communities?

I found some old threads here with jokes (funny one about the aluminum foil being the patch kit) but I’m talking more about idiosyncrasies and unique factors in our AS circle that make you smile or chuckle.

http://www.airforums.com/forums/f48/...ase-22669.html

Now that it’s nearing time to get my AS out of winter hibernation, I find my Airstream Enthusiasm Index bumping up from 2 to 4 (10 pt. scale), enough to prompt me to post something here. In the interest of full disclosure, I have an ulterior motive in asking as I’ve been trying my hand at a little AS cartooning - not something I’ve really done before and an as-yet underdeveloped skill.

I have thoughts on what I find funny (e.g. some of the posters here are entertaining and hilarious), but what about you? Thanks in advance for any comments or shares.

Regards - Ron

p.s. - be nice!!

The sound of silence... except for the chirping of crickets. Framing this into 4 possibilities (all tongue-in-cheek):
- Airstreaming is strictly a serious hobby / business
- Utah is being boycotted
- Utah Man has been demoted to the Ignore List
- Thread not nearly as interesting as the latest reincarnation of the Great TV (or Hitches, or Tires) Debate.

Oh well... Airstream Enthusiasm Index reset to 2.

Regards - Ron

Now you must give yourself more than 2 hours for a reply! [emoji3]

We're working on our crafty responses. You can't just knee-jerk something here - it has to be thoughtful and well-designed!

Unless you're that Red guy who always signs off with some hilarious signature seemingly off the cuff - that guy is FUNNY!

Hang in there Utah Man! It'll happen!

Yeah!! Glad I’ve not made everyones ‘Ignore’ list yet, and I didn’t think Utah was being boycotted at the moment.

Haven’t heard from that Red guy lately... we can only hope!

I can't really thinking of anything that I would say is "quirky" about Airstreams or the owners of Airstreams. But I have noticed a few things over the past 9 years.

1. Most of the time Airstream owners (probably like other brand owners) do acknowledge other Airstream owners, most of the time. When traveling down the Interstate most of the time we will flash our headlights at each other. In campgrounds if you are walking around we make sure to walk past other Airstreams and engage in a conversation with other owners. (At least I do ... )

2. I think it is fair say that most Airstream owners put miles on their units. Again, I'm thinking that few of us spend the money on an Airstream to only pull it a few miles from home twice a year.

3. This last comment isn't so much about us, the owners. But if you buy an Airstream you are not going to travel "unnoticed". If you are at the campground, rest area or gas station, people will comment on your trailer. Upon leaving the Florida Keys I was even followed so the person could comment on the trailer and really wanted to look inside when we stopped to use the bathroom.

4. We really like to debate what is the best tow vehicle and or tires.

Thanks, TS - good points. I’m an outlier on your #2 as I’ve yet to tow outside Utah in my 4 years of AS ownership - proceeding slowly and cautiously, not unlike NASA and its Roadmap to Mars.

They need a modernized Saturn 5 rocket, I need a modern TV (gas or diesel or electric?) They need the new, larger Orion spacecraft, and I need the new 30’ Classic. Neither one of us has the funding yet for our spendy and ambitious plans.

Someday, I may break orbit and travel beyond the safe confines of Utah....

Thanks for the post!

Regards - Ron

This Airstreamer finds it funny that I micro-fiber towel off our "Pete" when it dews heavy or rains and I'm in a campground. Like TSchleff said above, the neighbors are going to want to see your rig (mostly when you're hooking up to leave and you don't want to miss a step) .

Even at high $$ campgrounds like Fort Wilderness at Disney World, I find I'm the only one toweling off a wet coach so that it looks good........... Does that make me anal-retentive? Does anal-retentive have a hyphen? Heh Heh
