Looking for Kayaks for sale

We made a huge mistake.....sort of.

We have been sea kayakers for more than 25 years. We were younger when we started and are now in our mid-60's.

Gone are the days of camping/touring using our kayaks. It was so much better than backpacking and we could take all kinds of stuff, loaded in our 18' Perception Sea Lions.

Then, we moved to the water, got a pop-up and then the Airstream. Kayaks still went with us but we no longer wanted or needed the stowage. We bought 2 more, sit on top Hobie peddle kayaks for the Chesapeake, even heavier and almost as long.

Then, I decided I wanted to have smaller, lighter (we're not getting younger) kayaks and found what I thought would be perfect for us, Eddyline's that are about 3-4 feet shorter and 20#'s or more lighter. Sold all four to a neighbor. They are happy.

Now, the mistake. I can't beg, borrow or steal a new kayak. Eddyline is still manufacturing but like the run on bikes, kayaks, at least touring or recreational, can't be found. ANYWHERE.

We're leaving this weekend for 3+ months. We have our bikes but no kayaks. We have some great water campsites booked, too. No toys.

Anybody selling any great kayaks?

We use this and love it. Just an idea but you may check with Sea Eagle and see if they happen to have one on the shelf that you may be able to pick up. I know they are not really what ya'll are used to but these things are fun and practical.

Try visiting an REI store. They always seem to have a few on hand, but not a huge selection. You may have to settle on a kayak that is close but not exactly what you want.
You may also want to look at Pungo (Wilderness Systems) sit insides. Not as heavy as a rotomolded sit on top but still heavier than the Eddyline thermoformed. Wilderness might be in the same boat as Eddyline. Pun intended.
My wife has an Eddyline SOT. Very nice. I have a Pungo 140, no longer made, but do like it. Try Pungo 120 or 125.

Consider inflatable SUPs. I thought I would hate them but after buying a Red Co SUP 4 months ago I have not touched my kayaks once. Eddlyline and a Pungo 120. In fact I bought a second Red Co board.

It seems the average life span of an inflatable is 5 years. Much shorter than any other construction.

The warranty is 5 years. I hope they last a bit longer then that but they have seen a great deal of use in the short time I have had them. Mostly do to their portability. If I had to replace them in 5 years I wouldn’t be disappointed.

What direction are you traveling? Our small local marina has Eddylines in stock. Website lists Sandpiper, Rio, Equinox & Journey. No mention on how many of each. You’d have to be coming North, tho.

We’re headed to Maryland, then Watkins Glen, back to Maryland, then Ohio, then Albuquerque. What’s the area ‘up North’? I’d call them today!

Summitview, thanks. Will call them at 9 today. I’m afraid their website may be out of date.

Out of date…. Could be. Having visited their ‘showroom’, they didn’t strike me as all that tech savvy. Area code in my previous post is incorrect. Should be 413. Good luck! We love our Equinox kayaks. BTW, Eddyline website shows other dealers in NY over by Lake Erie that would be closer to Watkins Glen than us. One of them shows a Sitka in stock. They might be worth a call, too.

I second the Equinox. It’s a great kayak with a bit of a touring feel without the claustrophobic feel. If your on the small side the Rio looks like even more fun.

Try this place in CT. They had the best Eddline selection last summer and are one of the larger dealers. They don’t list their inventory on their website.

Thanks, All.

We are planning to stop in to Sportsman Marine after our Finger Lakes trip next week. They only have 3 on hand, not for sale, but will have many more arriving in September. We'll sit in them, go for a spin, then make a decision on the model to buy from their late summer Eddyline shipment.

I know these boats sell themselves but Gary at Sportsman is letting us boondock at the Marina. He was very helpful on the phone.

Too late for this trip but can't wait to have a lighter and shorter rec type boat.
