Getting old is when the new teacher interviewee says "We had Smart Boards in high school. That is really old school." and you remember mimieograph machines that made dittos that smelled heavenly. First thing we did as kids was sniff the copy the teacher gave you. Uffda.

A similar situation:

You know that you are getting older when the young school administrator who is interviewing you for a teaching position asks the question: "Please tell me about the office equipment you have utilized in teaching Office Practice and Keyboarding?" When the response included electric typewriters, adding machines, TRS 80 Model III and IV computers, and Apple II computers -- his response was: "You have certainly been around for tremendous technological changes. Speaking of which, just to have a wee bit of fun, I wrote up the comments I would make about several older friends at their funerals, then emailed them to them to ask them to edit them and add/delete anything they felt they should.

Got some interesting responses

to say the least. Particularly from a brother in law - he wasn't sure he should take it seriously, or what

. Okay, so I did happen to mention that I wasn't trying to spook them or anything, but given they are all so much older than me, and thus highly likely that I will outlive them...................

Also got several versions of what they intend to say about me back. Hmmm, now the race is on to see who can outlive the others.

So I guess you know you are getting older when your focused on outliving your buddies so you can say what you want about them without them having the chance to say what they want about you
