An S could be for Santa Rosa, New Mexico. Santa Rosa is located in eastern New Mexico on I40. Back in the days of Route 66, Santa Rosa was a needed rest stop. Prior to 1937, the old highway turned northwest near Santa Rosa and went to Santa Fe. (From there, it more or less followed the Rio Grande south through Albuquerque and on to Los Lunas, where it turned back northwest.) After that date, the highway was "realigned" so that it went directly west from Santa Rosa to Albuquerque; both Santa Fe to the north and Los Lunas to the south were cut off from the route.

An R could be for a town that isn't even listed in most places: Rinconada, New Mexico. Rinconada is one of the little communities located along the Rio Grande in the gorge below Taos. Rinconada along with the others there is well known in these parts for its fruit and vegetables. In the summertime, you can always find fresh fruit and veggie stands that the farmers put up beside the highway.
At least there's a map location for Rinconada!
