Lots of As! So how about Arroyo Seco, a small town outside of Taos, and home of ... ta-da -- Julia Roberts. The town is located northeast of Taos near the road that leads up to Taos Ski Valley. Julia's place is actually closer to the town of Valdez than to Arroyo Seco, though the deep arroyo between her place and Valdez pretty much explains why it would place her in the latter rather than the former.

Whew! I'm glad somebody hit that X! Now, a U must be Ute Park, NM. Ute Park is located just down Hwy 64 from us in the canyon, just below Cimarron Canyon State Park. And it was one of the main filming locations for the new movie, The Lone Ranger! (We had several of the film crew staying here at the park for a couple of months last summer.)

Glad that was an A because I'm thinking you're meaning Alamogordo, NM. There is an Alamosa, but it's just north of us in Colorado, and it is a gateway, but not to White Sands, but to the Great Sand Dunes!
But A, well, stands for Algodones. A small and very old village along the old Royal Road north of Albuquerque. And it's where we turn off the interstate and get on State Rd. 313 for a pleasant and unhurried drive to bypass the high-speed crazies on the interstate!

PS: There is an Alamosa in NM, but it's basically a neighborhood within the city of Albuquerque. Not much of a gateway to anything other than some storage places in that area of town.
