We'll do green chile stew. Can we also get folks to list the ingredients on a card in case someone is sensitive?

That's why my jambalaya for rallies never contains any kind of seafood.

But given the number of dishes and the number of people, it will be impractical for everyone with an allergy to read the ingredients list for every dish to find the ones they can or can't eat.

As an alternate suggestion, how about everyone with a dietary restriction identify it here, same way we're identifying the dishes we're bringing. Then the placards you suggested can contain (large print for old eyes) listings of just the allergens rather than all ingredients. Much faster and easier to get through the serving lines that way. The summary posts don't need to list who has what restriction, just list the restrictions that have been identified.

I'll start: I'm severely allergic to coconut, including coconut oil. We're talking "trip to the emergency room" allergic. So I'll avoid any dish that includes a "Contains Coconut Oil" placard.

Also, in a similar vein, since some people have a low tolerance for severely spicy food, a simple rating of "1 pepper" to "5 peppers" will allow those who can't handle the hot stuff to avoid the hot stuff, and allow those who love the hot stuff to avoid the mild stuff.

My jambalaya comes in at 3 peppers.

Name tags

I’m on a roll tonight..........
Howdy folks,
Regarding name tags, in the past several years we’ve had folks lovingly volunteer to make a name tag with a lanyard for each person attending the rally. This year since many of you are repeat offenders at the Canopener I thought it would be a good time to either recycle your previous name tags, or use your unit name tag or be creative and make your own name tag!

If you’re a Canopener virgin, same as above, be creative out there!
Who knows, there might even be a prize for the most creative name tag

I look forward to seeing y’all in a few short weeks,
Annette

Great ideas. I'll bring large note cards or post-its and sharpies for folks to note how many peppers on a 5 pepper scale and to note known allergens. Won't be long now.

Question any kids?

First timers: We are considering bringing our granddaughter, but wondering if there will be any other kids? More an adult only event?

TIA
