Oh yea...bring it on

AWCHIEF...a trip through Atlanta is always tough but the bright side is that it is a reminder of how good it is not to live there.

Seagars....Even though we will all be parked on grass the sites are just a few steps from the pavement and everything is flat and smooth....no roots, dirt, rocks, or mud. Some sites are designated handicap but in reality all sites are the same. Your call.

LuLuAdrift....the tire monitor guy cannot be with us this time. But we can put you in touch with him.

Stewball....bring your ax, there will be plenty of folks to jam with. I know of 3 myself.

WATERFALL HIKERS

We have ten hardy souls who will brave the trail on Friday morning. We will meet at 8:00 am in the shelter - and leave promptly no later than 8:30 the reason for the small group is the parking up on the mountain is extremely limited, basically a pull off on a single lane dirt track.

For those hiking - which includes anyone who’s PM’d me, please bring water and good shoes, the terrain can be slick and will be difficult on part of the trail. We will cross water a few times over log bridges - if you have any physical disabilities this may not be the right trail for you, ok that’s my serious speech. The trail is beautiful and meanders along side a stream I am hoping there may still be color in the leaves while we hike and the waterfalls are very very cool.

For those who wish to follow into the park but not hiking with us, please feel welcome. Pisgah National Forrest offers many other waterfalls, some right off the road or a very easy hike in. One of these allows visitors to wander into the small cave behind the falls, quite an experience if the water is running hard. You can also hike into the falls featured in “Last of the Mohicans” a beautiful spot.

To all: we will leave promptly at 8:30 am. We will stop at the ranger station before the hike which has the last available facilities. We will get back sometime in the afternoon - I’d say around 3:00 or 4:00. All in all a wonderful day for those who like a walkabout!

I look forward to seeing you all in the shelter at 8:00 on Friday.

Dave

From Augusta, we like

SC28 to Anderson,
US178 to Pickens,
SC8 to SC11
to the Caesar's Head Hwy and then
left on Table Rock Road

You can reach 28 by crossing the lake to McCormmick.

Heading out....

See you all in a few days...were heading out from Austin this morning! Any advice on missing Atlanta? I understand that is a bad way to go, but looks like all roads lead through there.

We are going to have to cancel for this year. (Heavy sigh) DW has to take care of her mother. Please take Alice and Brad off the list.

Consider Route 59 to Knoxville, 81 north a bit and then 40 the Asheville. A bit longer by no Atlanta. The driven in from Asheville is not bad even though it is country. It has been reported up to 4 hours to cross Atlanta.

How far did you get today. We are in Birmingham. Tackling Atlanta tomorrow, Sunday. Hope it won’t be quite as bad as a week day. Coming in on 20 taking 285 around the north side to 85.

Correction 2100 lbs capacity at 60 PSI, my bad typo.

I'm perplexed by that too. Living in the Atlanta area gives us a familiarity with traffic patterns that others don't possess. But unfamiliarity does't stop us from driving right through the downtown Interstate systems of other major cities of which we are not familiar so I don't know why Atlanta has such a negative appeal to so many.

Try towing your Airstream through Atlanta at 7:30 am on Monday morning, with a manual transmission tow vehicle, and you might gain an appreciation for why it is regarded with such acrimony.

We lived in Lawrenceville, northeast Atlanta, for 35 years. You have to know when to drive and where to go, what to drive at certain times of the day. You don’t go “through Atlanta at 7:30 on Monday morning” with or without a manual transmission. We had to be acclimated to driving conditions weekly. We are so glad we moved to Surfside Beach. But....we now deal with tourist traffic and motorcycle weeks. Life is good. ;-)

I live 30 miles south of Atlanta. It is ALWAYS a traffic NIGHTMARE!
I’m going miles out of the way to avoid it.
