Vintage Rock Guard

I have a '61 Overlander and the rock guard on the front window is missing. There are four fasteners on the window frame. The fasteners turn 45 degrees to lock the rock guard in place. Is there a source that sells new or used vintage rock guards? Thank you for your help.

Hi Rick and JJ,
I am no authority by any means, but I also have a vintage airstream that was missing the rock guard. I looked around and asked many questions - mostly I learned that even if you could find a vintage rock guard, it would most likely be too brittle us be of much use as I believe they were made of plastic. I've read that, if you're handy, you can make a rock guard by purchasing the glass and welding the frame...but we're not that handy.

We finally bit the bullet at purchase one through Inland RV. Well actually, we didn't have much choice since we lost the front window traveling down the freeway on our way to the NorCal Rally earlier this month! Fortunately Inland RV wasn't too far away and they did a great job of installing it.

It doesn't have a vintage look, but I personally don't think it detracts from the charm of our trailer. Plus, it's kind of nice to be able to see through the window while we're trailering, as Wally intended. I'm attaching a picture.

Hope this helps a little! Good luck!

Actually, our '64 has a fiberglass rock-guard, not plastic. It's a small scale, green wavy fiberglass panel framed out with about 1"x1" 90-degree aluminum. I believe the plastic ones came into existance with the Corning windows in '66.

I'll attach a picture of ours below, it's shown open but closes flat for travel. I've also seen some that had "white" (actually it's more beige) fiberglass too.

FWIW, we had ours off for a couple of weeks while polishing awhile ago and it was very nice to see through the trailer while on the road. But not nice enough to risk breaking a window while travelling. My vacation days are way too far in between to have to stop & make such an easily avoided repair while on the road.

Do you have a closeup of the mechanism on the sides?
