stone guard/mudflap choices
Need advice on adding stone protection to my 2020 Silverado 2500 diesel. Hitch mounted bumpers vs. regular mudflaps. Brand preferences. Experiences. Am concerned about impending the the single exhaust and/or exhaust heat damage to a hitch-mounted tow stone guard.

I just extended the OEM flaps, and got a TowTector to attach the the hitch shank.

Rock Tamers
Have “Rock Tamers” on Ram 2500 Diesel via hitch mount. Exhaust turns out in front of flap , no issues.

Rock Tamers work well for us ... just watch the exhaust and keep the flaps weighted to keep them from flying up ...
Downside ... very heavy when you pull the stinger with the RT attached.

Thanks for the input. Do any of you know the weight of the respective choices you mentioned? I can't seem to find any reference to weight from any of the manufacturers.

I have Rock Tamers as well and really like them. They really provide excellent protection, but has been mentioned they are a little on the heavy side when you leave them attached to the shank or stinger. They weigh about 32lbs.

I prefer my DuraFlap mud flaps. I did not have to drill into my truck. It was easy, they look great and are protecting everything I tow as well as my entire truck.
They even have them in 14" wide and extra long.

Thanks for the suggestion NRose! I had not ever seen DuraFlaps. I wonder how my wife would feel about some of those erotic weight designs?

X2 on these^^^
No drilling for front of rear flaps.
You can get them w/o the exotic designs to keep the DW happy.

Look at their artwork page. They have something for everyone.
But you can go without any of what they call weights. They are not needed on the mud flaps. They won't fly up without the weights.
Just saw DuraFlap is at Quartzsite RV Show this week.

Looks like you'd have to go with some of their "Universal" choices. You'd have to drill your truck but I bet they would work.

Weathertech mudflaps are also no-drill installation.

I am going to be pulling a 23ft Airstream with a standard height (not jacked up) Expedition. Will heavy duty tire guards be enough, or do I really need to use a hitch mounted system. I will never be off a paved road (other than slow speed in RV parks).

I put some regular mudflaps (WeatherTech, if I recall correctly) on my Expedition. No drilling required.
They do a good job — catch a lot.

They are in the middle of creating the drill-less for the new model Tundra.
For now they have their universal mud flaps.
They are all full size mud flaps that are wide enough and long enough to protect my trailer.
